Genetics and Heredity tends to be a unit where my scholars struggle due to the abstract nature of the concepts. Protein synthesis, DNA replication, and the passing of traits are ideas that can be difficult for them to grasp, especially when there is a lack of visuals. I yearned to provide my students with additional resources to enhance their understanding and overall experience with these topics. Thanks to your generous donations, my students were able to see these processes in action during our Genetics and Heredity unit.\r\n\r\nI waited to use the materials until the latter part of the unit. Students modeled these processes using Oreos, Twizzlers, and other manipulatives. After building an understanding of what the phases and processes looked like, we compared our models to actual scientific images. This helped students more easily identify the phases of mitosis and meiosis. They were also able to clearly recognize the stages and parts of protein synthesis using the models funded by this project.\r\n\r\nWe are currently awaiting our test scores to measure their overall progress. However, I have already noticed increased mastery and engagement thanks to the resources from this project and our earlier \"Seeing is Believing Part 1.\" It is my dream to continue building a wide variety of resources for every unit we teach here at G.W. Carver.\r\n\r\nI cannot thank you enough for your generosity and support!","fullyFundedDate":1723073875665,"projectUrl":"project/seeing-is-believing-part-2/8535439/","projectTitle":"Seeing Is Believing Part 2!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Drew","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9528170_orig.jpg?crop=2008,2008,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1717454133891","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9528170"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_50227","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":887,"numTeachers":69,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":91,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":55.9,"schoolId":50227,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about G.W.
