Small moments, like grabbing a fruit cup or granola bar, have a big impact. Students are more engaged, more willing to try, and better able to manage their energy during lessons.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping ensure that every child has the energy to grow, the focus to learn, and the reassurance that hunger has no place in their day. My students are learning that feelings come and go, and that it is okay to pause, reflect, and take care of their mental health.\r\n\r\nThe tools from this project have given students a safe way to explore big emotions and regain a sense of calm. I see children using affirmations to rebuild confidence, sensory materials to steady their bodies, and quiet spaces to collect their thoughts. Most importantly, they are learning the language to express how they feel and the confidence to ask for help when they need it.\r\n\r\nBecause of this project, my students feel more secure, more connected, and more ready to learn. What began as a project to encourage compassion has grown into a daily experience of warmth and connection among our young learners.\r\n\r\nStudents are becoming more comfortable with sitting alone when they need space because they now expect kindness to meet them there. I often see a classmate quietly walk over, sit down beside them, and offer a smile or a gentle invitation to rejoin the group. Children who once hesitated to reach out are now building friendships with confidence and empathy.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students opportunities to feel seen, valued, and connected. One even shouted that it felt \"just like Christmas\". They helped unpack the boxes and immediately began exploring th new books, play money, and hands-on tools like our pretend supermarket and vending machine sets. We used these to create a mini classroom economy where students earned play money for positive behavior and took turns being shoppers and cashiers. They quickly learned how todecide between wants and needs. It didn't surprise me how many students preferred to use the tap card instead of cash, proudly swiping their \"debit cards\" and saying they felt like grown-ups.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are focused on connecting financial literacy to emotional growth. We are working on mental health strengthening by teaching students that making responsible choices, showing generosity, and managing frustration when they cannot \"buy\" everything they want are all part of self-control and balance. These lessons are helping my students grow in both confidence and compassion, preparing them to make smart, caring decisions in everyday life.","fullyFundedDate":1758837781755,"projectUrl":"project/dollars-and-sense-for-young-minds/9657024/","projectTitle":"Dollars and Sense for Young Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Navata","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9565783_orig.jpg?crop=2400,2400,x0,y232&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723750210097","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msnavata"},{"teacherId":9565783,"projectId":9680455,"letterContent":"When our new STEM and SEL materials arrived, the excitement in the room was contagious. The students' eyes lit up as they unpacked the magnetic tiles, LEGO bricks, and colorful math manipulatives. They couldn't wait to explore, and before long, small groups were building towers, testing balance, and proudly counting the number of blocks used. One group even worked together to create a \"math city,\" using base-ten blocks as skyscrapers and number bonds to \"power\" their buildings!\r\n\r\nWe now use these resources daily during math centers and social-emotional learning time. The hands-on manipulatives have made abstract concepts like addition and place value much more concrete, and students who once hesitated in math are now confident and engaged. During SEL time, the social skills games have helped them practice empathy and teamwork while laughing and learning together.\r\n\r\nYour generous support has transformed our classroom into a place of curiosity, collaboration, and creativity.
