I had lots of English books on making good choices and being the best student you can be, but I did not have enough text in Spanish for read alouds for my Dual Immersion Kindergarten classroom.\r\n\r\nWe have not read all of the books yet, but the ones that have been read have provided listening, speaking, and sharing opportunities for my students. For example, I use a modified Kagan strategy called \"Inside, Outside line (it is called a circle in the Kagan Cooperative learning strategies). During this acitivity the students face each other with 1 partner. The Inside line begins the activity by asking the question posed by the teacher. The Outside line person responds. Questions such what was you favorite part, what part of the story did you not like and why, etc. After about 1 minute of exchanging responses the students then rotate to a new partner. This is an important strategy that encourages speaking in Spanish, the language they are learning, and active listening. Questions are linked to the topic or moral or the empahsis for that day.\r\n\r\nThe other way I have used the books is I have been students to write and draw about their favorite parts of the book or their favorite setting or favorite character in their writing journals. Sometimes, they are allowed to write with a partner and sometimes they write on their own. Reading a book about making good choices is always a great motivator for writing assignments.\r\n\r\nIn todays time, it is so important as an educator to incoporate social emotional learning skills and lessons because they are life skill lessons.","fullyFundedDate":1731940405940,"projectUrl":"project/hum-making-good-choices/8625137/","projectTitle":"Hum!
