We are still using the paint pens (and will until they run out!) and have enough sets for each of our eleven tables. My students love having all of the colors within reach and they've taken great care of them so they last. Our marker sets, gel pens were also divided into eleven bins, one for each table of artists. Having the classroom set up when they walk has been a game changer. I have over 180 middle schoolers in a trimester, and will do this three times a year. Many of your donated materials will stay in the art room for a long time- aprons, puzzles, books that inspire daily drawing prompts. I would never have been able to buy these for my students and can't thank you enough!!!!!!! You are making a huge difference for a teacher and 400+ middle schoolers. Students with reading disabilities are also able to use the Read/Write App on their computer and their headphones to have the computer read directions on their computer or what they have typed aloud to them. This helps them to better understand directions and also to edit their writing work. \r\n\r\nThe de-codable Primary Phonics books are also helpful for students to read and see pictures for context clues as they read books at their current independent level. They have already noticed the collaborative art mural in the hallway from last year's group and the dioramas that sit on top of my shelves from the year before. The teachers are impressed that 4 square is back and kids are having a fun time playing it. We have had several opportunities already to \"pet\" the lavender plant and breathe in it's aroma to calm us. A number have also started to create their own mini scientific study to see if smelling mint before learning a new concept (vocab word) will help them remember it, especially when smelling mint before being asked a question about the concept. These plant boxes have also brightened up the dark counters with blank empty sinks, making kids feel more comfortable and taking better pride in their learning space. I have seen fewer drawings on the table, less trash left behind, and more students talking about the plants and how each mint smells a little different.\r\nI am really excited to see how we can incorporate these plants into more of our lessons this year, using them beyond just sensory stimulation. I can see us using the multiple varieties of mint plants in our adaptations and evolution unit coming up while we discuss how humans might select for specific traits. We also had several Stevia plants donated from a local nursery, and these will help us in our human body systems unit as we talk about digestion and energy systems.\r\nYour kindness in generosity is really transforming this classroom into a multidimensional learning environment for which I am truly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1753970504708,"projectUrl":"project/settling-sensory-smells/9510930/","projectTitle":"Settling Sensory Smells","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hentschel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9305207"},{"teacherId":604254,"projectId":9119944,"letterContent":"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generous support of our project, \"Fueling Learning: Snacks for Emerging Bilingual Scholars!\" Because of you, my students begin each afternoon with a smile and a snack—and that simple act of care makes a world of difference.\r\n\r\nIn the afternoon, my classroom transforms into a space filled with renewed energy and focus, thanks to the nutritious snacks you helped provide. The maps purchased with this Donor's Choose project were displayed alongside the student work so that our greater community could appreciate the diversity of cultures represented in our project as well as recognize the traditional lands. The students had used digital copies of these maps, but the real ones were essential to a community display.\r\n\r\nFunding this project gave the students an authentic and accurate way to share what they had learned with the broader community.
