We have already seen kids identifying areas that need improvement in their pieces as they edit on paper. Kids get really excited when it is \"red pen\" time and they can take time to hand edit their piece.\r\nNew this year- we will have a partner ALSO mark up each other's paper with errors, suggestions and wonderings. This can really help kids identify where they may have missed an error- and it can help us realize that when we reread our own writing, it is easy to miss errors because we tend to read through our own work quickly, like scanning instead of reading. We also may forget to add an important detail or clarification because we know the story so well already, but our partners, being an impartial/neutral party, won't be able to understand the story if it is incomplete. Pointing this out to each other is very helpful.\r\n\r\nAll of this is really just to say- thank you. You may be surprised to see how a red pen (or other colors) help students significantly in writing class.
