These everyday items make a remarkable difference in helping us to tinker and build, as our first official projects are underway in STEM class. The tape has been a key tool in helping to construct our mini golf course holes and to build a \"cheese-copter\" like Rosie does in the book Rosie Revere the Engineer. The tape dispensers have helped to keep the building process running efficiently, saving time and reducing frustration (which is HUGE for my littles), so creativity can stay at the center of the work. \r\n\r\nTogether, these supplies eliminate small barriers that could slow down our building momentum, but not this year! Our students can dive into hands-on learning with confidence and excitement. They have started to create backpack charms using these materials. This has created so much more excitement and engagement to pixel art than in previous years. \r\n\r\nI have added the four lite brites to my early finisher shelf. Artists at all grade levels (K-5) have begun to use these. Many of my students have some difficulty with hearing sounds in words, rhyming, segmenting words and hearing and understanding syllables in words. From working with my kindergartners who did not understand the concept of rhyming to now being able to tell me words that rhyme it is a huge step forward for them as they grow in their literacy learning. For students to build a strong literacy foundation they need to build on concepts such as rhyming in order to then apply it to print as a reader and recognize parts of words or analogies to get to an unknown word - they can use that as a strategy.\r\nWhen my students saw the materials they were excited and ready to begin learning, they caught on right away. Now every time we do this activity their faces light up because they feel successful. Many of my students are striving readers so they need lots of support, practice and assistance with meeting the expectations in the classroom.
