They're sparking great conversations and building connections between what we're learning in class and the real world.\r\nIn a science classroom, reading typically happens for research purposes and for gaining a deeper understanding. These books provided updated information, engaging images and varied reading levels for students to use to do both of those. \r\nI have found I can also use them in both middle and high school classes. In my science elective class, students dived deeper into past pandemics to compare to their experiences of recent pandemics. With the information they found, students were able to create some great final projects such as a board game for others to play and try to survive. In middle school, students are able to take a closer look at virus structures and the types of viruses that can be found worldwide. \r\nThese resources are not only deepening the understanding of science, but also helping students become more informed, thoughtful, and lifelong learners. From the second my students saw the Legos delivered to my room, they were interested and intrigued. As I wanted to save them for an end of year project, it was hard to keep students away. Once we were able to dig in, we didn't end up putting them away until the last day of school!\r\nI plan to intertwine Legos into my curriculum wherever I can next year, but this spring I decided to start with a mini engineering project. Using the books, students built a mini flower, bee, cactus or clown fish. All were engaged! After researching how humans can negatively impact the populations of their organism, students were challenged to build one solution to help minimize human impacts. This was a part of our unit on ecosystems and the relationships organisms can have with one another.\r\nAs students worked in small groups, I saw collaboration, sharing, creativity and full participation. It was good to see how students can work through the full engineering process as they were constrained to the Lego pieces that we had. Students came up with simple to very complex ideas to solve the problems for the organisms and as you can see in the images, they had some great ideas. \r\nWithout this project being funded, I would never had the means to begin my Lego journey in my classroom. I am excited to use them more and more over the years and inspire other teachers to do the same. \r\nThank you again!","fullyFundedDate":1746841196933,"projectUrl":"project/modeling-life-science-one-brick-at-a-tim/9280811/","projectTitle":"Modeling Life Science-One Brick at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Clark","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6035483_orig.jpg?crop=1920,1920,x0,y332&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1745606391236","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6035483"},{"teacherId":3484496,"projectId":9036041,"letterContent":"Thank you so very much for bringing this project to life!
