In the mornings, students say their goodbyes to their parents feeling comfortable and happy ready to start the day. I love how the activities of the morning tubs are playbased and hands on. They tap into their creativity, thinking, building, talking, sharing, and problem solving skills\r\nAt each student group table there is a tub with different activities. They play for 8 minutes and have 2 minutes for clean up. Through play, the students are able to work together and socialize while working on their fine motor skills. Along with the Wonderland themed relay race, materials from this project were also used during big buddy days, Core Academy weekends, our annual family STREAM Night & individual classroom use. We have students looking forward to our Core Academy weekends because they've been so fascinated by the unique activities and learning that this wonderful Donors Choose community has provided. Our Butterfly Life Cycle project has been a beautiful learning experience for my students! We're incredibly grateful for your generous support. My students were disappointed to be leaving for Spring Break because they've been enjoying quiet moments sitting near the caterpillars and observing their movements. They were surprised how quickly the caterpillars grew and then formed their chrysalises and asked me to send updates via our class app if any changes happened while they were gone (I had to pop into class a couple times to check on them)! \r\n\r\nOur read along times have lead to increased engagement and thoughtful questions about the life cycle and butterfly migration, we even pulled up a large map for them to see how far they can travel. Even some of our quieter students have participated more, eager to share their observations. These materials have already made a meaningful impact in my speech and language sessions!\r\n\r\nWe've been using the pretend play toys, especially the Critter Clinic, during both assessments and therapy. One of my favorite moments was during a preschool evaluation, where a student who is typically very quiet became fully engaged \"taking care\" of the animals. Through play, he began using more spontaneous language, answering questions, and even initiating interactions. It gave me such a clear picture of his skills in a way that felt natural and comfortable for him. \r\n\r\nThe magnet tiles have also been a huge hit. Students love building together, and I've seen so much collaboration, turn-taking, and imaginative language come out of these activities. They naturally encourage students to communicate with each other. Asking for pieces, sharing ideas, and working as a team.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were immediately drawn to them, and there was so much excitement and curiosity. My students and I feel so lucky to have such kind donors looking out for us and making learning extra special. \r\n\r\nHelping to coach students through the multiple parts of an obstacle course has benefited their spatial awareness, comprehension, patience and empathy skills. I started off by letting them go one at a time along a short obstacle course so the students who are still strengthening their balancing and coordination skills could get a feel for what the obstacle course was like and gain some confidence before engaging in the relay portion. We did the single file a few times before beginning a 1v1 relay, pairing students with similar skill sets. I'm so thankful to have the materials to provide extra coordination and balance practice. My students have been loving it and ask for the \"forest and rainbow tunnel race\" everyday!! \r\n \r\nAlong with Friday fun days, we're planning on using this during our field day in May. This obstacle course has been a fun and engaging way for students to practice their gross motor skills and gain important teamwork experience. \r\n\r\nAnd an extra special, heartfelt \"thank you\" to our mystery classroom donor for bringing this project to life.
