It has quickly become the heart of our classroom, sparking a sense of wonder and curiosity in my students every day. The students eagerly arrive in the morning and head straight towards the aquarium to \" converse\" with the fish. They love to count them and track their movements, and it's been amazing to see the fish adapt to the student's schedule as well; they now swim to the tank's edge to engage with the children while awaiting their morning meal. \r\nThe aquarium has also helped us teach responsibility through a brand-new class job; feeding the Mickey Mouse Platies. The students take this role very seriously, learning the importance of consistency and care for these living creatures. Beyond just watching the fish, we've added live plants to the tank. It has been fascinating for the class to track their growth and observe the unique ways the platies interact with the greenery, creating a complete, thriving ecosystem for us to study.\r\nBuilding on the interest and success of the aquarium , we recently added several tadpoles provided by our district's environmental center. Because the students have become so adept at caring for the platies, they were eager to take on the responsibilities of managing this new life cycle. Watching the transformation from tadpoles to frogs has added an entirely new layer of scientific discovery to our daily routine as they apply what they've learned about aquatic care to these new visitors. \r\nBeyond academics, the aquarium has become a vital social-emotional tool. We have integrated it into our \"safe-place\", where students can go to regulate their emotions. Whether they are feeling overwhelmed or just need a moment of peace, sitting quietly and observing the gentle movement of the fish helps them refocus and find their balance. It has made a noticeable difference in our classroom climate and the students' ability to self-soothe. Your kindness has provided us with a living laboratory and a sanctuary for emotional growth that will impact these students for a long time to come.","fullyFundedDate":1763586038304,"projectUrl":"project/a-living-science-lesson/9701493/","projectTitle":"A Living Science Lesson","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cortez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp6146882_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1545165545664","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6146882"},{"teacherId":2303371,"projectId":9731927,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support in funding the Bee-Bots and docking station for our library. Your kindness has given our Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students an exciting opportunity to explore early coding, problem-solving, and collaboration in a hands-on way. The Bee-Bots have quickly become one of the most loved learning tools in our space, and students are always eager for their turn to plan routes, test their ideas, and celebrate when their robot reaches its destination.\r\n\r\nUsing the Bee-Bots has had a wonderful impact on our younger learners. Kindergarten students are building foundational sequencing skills while practicing directions and counting steps. First graders are working together to predict, program, and debug their Bee-Bot paths, strengthening both critical thinking and teamwork. Second graders have begun creating more complex challenges, mapping out routes and explaining their strategies to classmates. These activities help students see themselves as problem solvers and innovators while reinforcing important logic skills.\r\n\r\nBeyond the academic benefits, the Bee-Bots have truly improved the climate of our library. The space is filled with excitement, curiosity, and collaboration as students work together, encourage one another, and celebrate successes. The Bee-Bots have made the library an even more welcoming and engaging place where exploration and creativity thrive. During math stations, the new storage bin keeps all of our manipulatives sorted and easy for students to access.
