Originally, this project was designed to enhance our reading experience during the cold months here in Wisconsin. As the project developed, we were also able to link it to our Kindness Rocks! behavior incentive. Each week, students recognized other students for sharing purposeful acts of kindness with them. Students were nominated by their peers, and received individual recognition. We also kept track of our class total, and set a goal to meet based on the total number of purposeful acts of kindness that were recognized. When we met the goal, students earned a collaborative game day. We also celebrated this milestone with hot chocolate and snacks! \r\n\r\nWhen students completed their games, they got cozy with their books and continued enjoying the hot chocolate and snacks. It can be challenging to get middle schoolers to read, but they really enjoyed the coffee shop atmosphere that your donation was able to encourage. Your thoughtfulness was definitely appreciated.","fullyFundedDate":1739455248220,"projectUrl":"project/brrrits-cold-outside-books-and-hot/8901000/","projectTitle":"Brrr...It's Cold Outside! When the packages first arrived, I had the students help carry them up to our classroom. Students were so shocked that the packages were for them and not me. It was like Christmas morning, watching them unbox supplies and organize them in our classroom environment. My students do not always have the greatest memories from school. School can be very challenging for them which can cause negative feelings. However, this day was a great memory for them. They were all in fantastic spirits and wanted to use the materials immediately. It was a great moment for my students. \r\n\r\nMost of my day is spent teaching basic reading skills and emotional regulation skills. All of the resources you purchased are being used to help engage students in learning and to teach new ways of overcoming challenges. Slime, Play-Doh, whiteboard markers, and foam letters are now being incorporated into our reading lessons to help students have a multi-sensory experience with learning to read. Snacks are being used as incentive projects and community-based learning opportunities. \r\n\r\n\r\nThank you so much for all of your help!","fullyFundedDate":1731265201588,"projectUrl":"project/special-education-in-middle-school/8506785/","projectTitle":"Special Education in Middle School","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bronkalla","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6152642"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_38571","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":803,"numTeachers":67,"percentFrplEligible":40,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":60,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":28,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":84.2,"schoolId":38571,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Butler Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Butler Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/waukesha-school-district/butler-middle-school/38571"}
