The kids have been so excited to get their hands dirty (with the help of the working gloves and shovels!) I have students who would normally not like to be involved with nature squeal with delight when they come across a worm because they had the right tools to feel safe. The donation of the shed has also been a great help protecting our new tools, especially as the weather starts to cool down for fall and winter. It is a great place to protect and centrally store all of our new garden tools and the students have been eager to continue decorating and making it their own. In this age of technology, it is amazing to see an entire class of 7th graders all reading the same physical book together. Everyday we read another chapter of Mockingjay and all students follow along in their books. Having the physical books is really important for ensuring that students are getting the full benefits of listening to the book being read aloud. Reading along allows students to see the words that are spoken aloud and then learn how to pronounce them. \r\n\r\nRight after winter break, my students all set goals for 2025. One of the goals is a reading goal and over half the students in 7th grade set a goal to finish reading the Hunger Games book series.
