Your support has helped create a stock for the year that will be replenished as needed. Your kind donation means that instead of picking pencils up at the dollar store and dipping into my pay as a teacher, my students are supported through your donation. I don't have to stress about running out, and they don't have to feel pressured about forgetting a writing tool. I seek to build an inclusive and equitable environment, and often, people forget that access to simple everyday materials like pencils can be difficult for families with limited resources. Part of my teaching philosophy is the importance I place on student ownership and stewardship of the learning space. Long ago, as a parent, I recognized the connection between preparing a space for learning and allowing children to demonstrate all of the wonderful abilities they have to take care of materials and space. These supplies have helped keep our room in stock of tissue and paper towels (not the brown stuff), and we can keep up when we get messy. The Clean Up Crew uses the spin mop and sweeper to clean up crumbs and papers, and most importantly, the supplies are always out, customized to second-grade height, and ready for student use as needed. The learners really take pride in being trusted to take care of and clean up after themselves. Thank you for allowing them to realize their full potential and abilities.","fullyFundedDate":1723638411182,"projectUrl":"project/expect-more-prep-less/8474091/","projectTitle":"Expect More. While our building has a book room, it is often in the middle of a lesson or spur of the moment that a decodable is required, and I can't make it to the library to gather decodables except during prep. Having this collection on my bookshelf has meant that students and I can use the highly engaging and decodable text during 1:1 and small group interventions. The students love the stories and are strengthing their skills without realizing the prominent purpose of the text.
