They have also learned the importance of using biodegradable pots when planting to give back nutrients to the soil as well as not to disrupt the already fragile growing seedling when planting. The rulers have been used multiple times already in teaching students the proper way to measure not only in standard measurement, but also with metric. Students are ecstatic to be able to each have a ruler instead of sharing one between every five to six students. This has given each student more hands on opportunities in being successful in measurements within the lab. \r\n\r\nAt first as supplies started to pile into the classroom, my students were wondering what did Mrs. Shipman have assigned for them next. They enjoy going to the science lab and getting hands on experience, but rarely do see the impact of what we are doing really has on our community. For example, some of our seedlings were donated to the local community garden that is used by various families in the area as a source food. We got to see how not controlling fertilizer runoff effects not only our plant growth, but also can damage future plant growth. If plant growth was affected, then also eventually soil erosion could occur due to lack of vegetation in an area. \r\n\r\nNow that we have learned about our vegetation is affected by soil pollution, we are taking it one step further and learning about how soil pollution can affect a whole ecosystem. My students are excited to learn how one small act can change to course of life for many different species.","fullyFundedDate":1730820007874,"projectUrl":"project/how-does-soil-pollution-affect-plant-gro/8913372/","projectTitle":"How does soil pollution affect plant growth?","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Shipman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9576568_orig.jpg?crop=1008,1008,x0,y245&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1719330927719","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9576568"},{"teacherId":1790079,"projectId":8370346,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support for my classroom. \r\nThe much needed cardstock and materials to make educational games when the weather isn't nice for the students to go outside was well used.\r\nWe made math race game mats, Bump It Math games which were all laminated.
