Your support has made a remarkable impact on our girls—and their excitement has been truly contagious.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, each member received their very own sketchbook, pencils, and erasers. As soon as the supplies were in their hands, they wasted no time bringing their creativity to life. They've been filling the pages with designs that reflect their unique personalities, bold ideas, and growing confidence.\r\n\r\nNow, they're buzzing with anticipation for the next step: a special visit from a talented local seamstress who will teach them how to work the sewing machines and bring their sketches to life. This opportunity means the world to them—and it wouldn't have been possible without you.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is doing more than providing tools—it's helping shape dreams, build skills, and spark passion in these future designers. One of the most impactful moments was when we used the art supplies, like sketchbooks, origami paper, and paints, in a small group setting. The students look forward to these sessions every week, eagerly asking if we'll have group time. These moments have given them a safe space to explore deep emotions and reflect on their experiences. Through art, many students have been able to process feelings they would normally find too difficult to share. The process of creating has also helped some students re-regulate when they're feeling emotionally unsettled, like when they've had a rough day or are feeling dysregulated. It's incredible to see how art, whether it's drawing, painting, or creating origami, can serve as a therapeutic outlet and a calming tool.\r\n\r\nA specific project that stands out is when the students designed a tree that represented themselves. They envisioned their tree as a calm, adaptable presence, unaffected by external changes, with deep roots symbolizing stability and strong branches reaching towards the sky. This activity gave them a chance to reflect on their inner strength and resilience, offering them a tangible metaphor for personal growth. We also explored the creation of mala beads, which have a grounding, meditative purpose rooted in ancient Indian tradition. Students used the beads as a tool to focus their mind, breath, and body, creating something beautiful that also served a deeper purpose of mindfulness. These projects not only helped students connect with their own emotions but also fostered a sense of community as they shared their artwork and supported one another's creative expression.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will continue using these art projects as a means of self-expression and emotional growth. The next step is to deepen our mindfulness practices, using the mala beads as a tool for focusing during moments of stress or anxiety. We will also continue to work on group projects, giving students opportunities to collaborate and connect through shared creative experiences. These activities are a powerful reminder of how art can serve as both a form of expression and a healing tool, and thanks to the generous support of our donors, these resources have made a significant impact on our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1733165471639,"projectUrl":"project/coloring-confidence-art-therapy-supplie/8918678/","projectTitle":"Coloring Confidence: Art Therapy Supplies for Student Healing","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Funk","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9154825"},{"teacherId":3122168,"projectId":8272794,"letterContent":"I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for your generous donation of the aquaponic system. Your support has truly made a remarkable difference in the lives of my students, and I would love to share the impact it has had on their learning and growth.\r\n\r\nSince the installation of the aquaponic system, my students have been able to experience firsthand how sustainable farming practices work in real life. They've learned not only about plant cultivation but also the delicate balance between fish and plants in this innovative, eco-friendly system. Through this hands-on experience, they've developed a deeper understanding of the environment and the importance of sustainability in agriculture.\r\n\r\nThe aquaponic system has sparked curiosity and excitement in students who previously had little exposure to gardening or science. It has become a valuable tool in promoting teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking as they monitor and care for the system. Many students have expressed newfound interest in science and environmental studies, and a number have even shared how the experience has influenced their career aspirations.\r\n\r\nIn addition to academic growth, the system has fostered a sense of responsibility and pride among the students. They have taken ownership of the project, nurturing both the plants and fish, and seeing the results of their efforts has been incredibly rewarding. It has also provided a unique opportunity for the students to connect with their food source in a way that's both educational and meaningful.\r\n\r\nI am thrilled with the impact the aquaponic system has had on my gardening club, and it's all thanks to your generosity. Your contribution has empowered my students with valuable skills and knowledge that will benefit them for years to come.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for your incredible support. I am deeply grateful for your commitment to enriching the lives of my students and helping them grow both academically and personally.","fullyFundedDate":1711382939392,"projectUrl":"project/aquaponics-and-gardening-initiative/8272794/","projectTitle":"Aquaponics and Gardening Initiative","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Aumiller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3122168_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753185633857","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3122168"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_33453","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":282,"numTeachers":19,"percentFrplEligible":19,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":79,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":33453,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Broadus Wood Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Broadus Wood Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/albemarle-county-school-district/broadus-wood-elementary-school/33453"}
