Over a two week period, I had students read excerpts from the book during class time, answer questions about the reading in a packet that I made up, and then discuss the reading and questions with their lab partners. Each section was about the history of the discovery or use of a chemical element, or a family of elements. This was a new experience for us as we usually just read the textbook and labs in science class, not novels!\r\n After the students read the six required sections, they got to choose a section about another element and read and answer questions about that section. Then they did some additional research about the choice section and created a poster about the element discussed in the choice section. The posters were created in the format of being an Instagram pages, so they were factual but also a little funny, and so creative! \r\n My students really enjoyed learning about and demonstrating their knowledge of an element, and showcasing their artistic abilities and designs. Everyone loved the project!
