The items are helping the children calm their bodies, and focus on actively participating. One student is now joining our group time when given one of the weighted animals. Another is verbally requesting a fidget or chewy. \r\n\r\nThese materials also support fine motor, language, and social-emotional skills, while making the classroom feel comfortable. The children were so excited about the materials. They helped open the packages and immediately requested to use them. They particularly like using the sand molds to build walls and other things. \r\n\r\nBeyond the physical and cognitive benefits, the bins have sparked social connections as children share tools and learn to communicate with one another. \r\n\r\nYour contribution has brought not only developmental progress but also moments of joy and discovery that are truly priceless. The addition of ride-on toys has had an amazing impact on my students with special needs. Over the past months, I've watched children who previously struggled with coordination begin to steer and balance with newfound confidence. \r\n\r\nThe wiggle rider was instrumental in getting a student who had shown no interest in bikes to try. That child is now seeking out the peddle bikes. Another child at first only used the scooting ride-on toys and this week peddled independently across the playground. Now we just need to work on steering. The students are discovering the sense of independence and their gross motor skills have visibly improved.\r\n\r\nPerhaps even more touching is the social progress they've made. We kept the wiggle car inside for awhile as our students worked on taking turns and waiting patiently. We created a wait chair and encouraged them to use words, communication devices, and gestures to request turns. \r\nInteractions increased and the children seemed to enjoy turn taking and connecting with their peers. \r\nThis transformation is a testament to how the right tools can unlock potential, and we are deeply grateful for your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1729879762112,"projectUrl":"project/pedal-and-play-developing-motor-skills/8667220/","projectTitle":"Pedal and Play: Developing Motor Skills with Trike Adventures!\"","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tracey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9277615_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754357723871","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9277615"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_32823","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":189,"numTeachers":14,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":11,"percentBlack":14,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":43,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"13.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":81.3,"schoolId":32823,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bret Harte Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bret Harte Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/sacramento-city-unified-school-district/bret-harte-elementary-school/32823"}
