The sensory bins have quickly become one of the most exciting and treasured parts of my classroom. My students look forward to exploring the different themes, and their excitement is contagious!\r\n\r\nWhat may look like simple scooping, pouring, digging, sorting, squeezing, and creating is actually building important skills. As my students explore the sensory materials, they are strengthening the fine motor skills they need for writing, cutting, dressing, and other everyday tasks. They are also practicing communication, taking turns, sharing, following directions, problem-solving, and using their imaginations.\r\n\r\nFor some of my students, sensory play provides an opportunity to slow down, regulate their bodies, and feel successful in the classroom. It gives them a way to participate at their own developmental level while building confidence and independence. I have loved watching students who may initially be hesitant become more willing to explore, communicate, and engage with their classmates.\r\n\r\nThe themed bins have also allowed us to connect our sensory play to what we are learning throughout the year. Whether we are exploring farms, oceans, construction, weather, transportation, literacy, holidays, or community helpers, students are able to experience learning in a concrete and meaningful way.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, your support has helped create a classroom where my students can explore, discover, communicate, and learn through play. You have helped turn everyday classroom activities into opportunities for growth and joyful learning.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and helping them build skills, confidence, and a love of learning. Bubbles, kinetic sand, sunglasses, and other supplies supported important skills such as communication, fine motor development, emotional regulation, and social interaction while helping prevent summer learning loss. \r\n\r\nSeeing these students and community events and now at Back to School Open house, they were excited to tell me all about how they played during the summer and enjoyed these materials. My students were immediately excited when they first saw the materials and could not wait to explore them. Their excitement quickly turned into meaningful learning as we began using the fidgets during literacy and math activities.\r\n\r\nStudents now have opportunities to keep their hands busy while their minds stay focused on the lesson. I have seen students who typically struggle with restlessness participate for longer periods of time, listen more closely, and feel more comfortable engaging in classroom activities. The fidgets have also created fun opportunities to practice skills through hands-on learning, making lessons more interactive and memorable.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding moments has been watching students learn how to choose a tool that helps them stay focused and use it appropriately during instruction. They are building self-awareness and learning that different strategies work for different learners.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue incorporating these resources into literacy and math lessons as students practice new skills, work independently, and participate in small-group activities. The individual lined whiteboards quickly became one of their favorite learning tools. We use them daily during handwriting practice, phonics lessons, and sentence writing activities. Students love being able to practice, erase, and try again without worrying about mistakes. It has helped build confidence, especially for students who are still developing fine motor and writing skills.\r\n\r\nOne special moment was during our writing time when students independently used their whiteboards to practice spacing and letter formation before writing in their journals. I noticed many students taking more risks and participating because the whiteboards made writing feel fun and low-pressure.\r\n\r\nThe folders, page protectors, and laminating supplies have also made a huge difference in keeping our classroom organized and preserving important learning materials. We are now able to reuse literacy activities, handwriting sheets, and center resources throughout the year.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue using these materials during small group literacy instruction, interactive writing lessons, and independent practice as we work on becoming stronger readers and writers.
