All of my students have disabilities, which make learning challenging for them. Additionally, some of them come from homes with food insecurity. As a result, they find it especially difficult to focus on their learning without food to eat while they are in my class.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the arrival of large boxes in our classroom, they were so excited to open them. When they saw the variety of snacks that arrived, they started discussing the order in which they would select the snacks. \r\n\r\nWhen students enter my classroom each afternoon, several ask if they can be the one to distribute snacks later during the period. I choose one student to distribute snacks.. Then, I start the class period by teaching students a mini lesson in mathematics. Eagerly, students await the time when we transition into a web-based reading program. At that time, when students have made a successful transition, one student passes out the snacks that you donated. They remain focused on their learning in the reading program while they eat their snacks.\r\n\r\nIn many ways, your donation of snacks has made a big difference in how successful my students are in their learning during seventh grade.","fullyFundedDate":1767120882832,"projectUrl":"project/providing-food-for-students-who-are-hung/9674931/","projectTitle":"Providing Food for Students Who Are Hungry","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sweet","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10186734_orig.jpg?crop=512,512,x0,y64&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769964169013","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10186734"},{"teacherId":10095359,"projectId":9503422,"letterContent":"We are using the new resources on a daily basis in our classroom, and they have already made a noticeable difference in student engagement and skill development. The Sing at First Sight books are now a core part of our warm-ups and sight-reading practice, allowing every student to have their own copy and actively participate rather than sharing or observing. The music whiteboards are used for quick notation exercises, rhythm writing, and solfège drills, which keep students involved and allow me to give immediate feedback. We recently used this to augment our music theory work by practicing drawing the grand staff as pictured in one of the photos. The instrument tuners have helped students better understand pitch accuracy and have increased their confidence during rehearsals, especially for my orchestra students.\r\n\r\nThese resources have created a more hands-on, student-centered learning environment and have significantly improved our rehearsal efficiency. Students are more confident sight-reading, more aware of pitch accuracy, and more engaged. Thanks to this project, my students are developing skills that will benefit them not only in choir, orchestra, and band but in all future musical experiences.","fullyFundedDate":1760693828154,"projectUrl":"project/theory-books-for-the-win/9503422/","projectTitle":"Theory Books For The Win!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Rutt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10095359_orig.jpg?crop=2995,2996,x1183,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753573638720","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10095359"},{"teacherId":1748762,"projectId":9652834,"letterContent":"This has turned out to be one of my favorite projects ever, which means a lot because book projects have always been my top choice! These books open doors for students to build critical reading skills while also connecting with characters and stories that feel relevant to them. With these texts, we can dive into lessons on theme, character development, figurative language, and the author's craft—all while keeping students engaged with stories that they truly want to read. The new books give us more opportunities to practice skills like citing evidence, making inferences, and analyzing how characters grow and change over time.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom now feels much more dynamic and student-driven. During independent reading time, students eagerly reach for the new titles, and many of them are recommending books to one another. Small group discussions have also become richer, as students are excited to talk about cliffhangers, character choices, and the way authors use words to paint vivid pictures. These books aren't just filling shelves—they're fueling conversations and sparking curiosity.\r\n\r\nOne student who had struggled to find interest in reading lit up when he discovered The Crossover. He connected with the rhythm of the writing and the story about basketball and family, and it was the first time I saw him voluntarily take a book home to keep reading. Another group of students is flying through Percy Jackson and debating which character they would most want to team up with. These moments show just how powerful access to the right books can be.
