These materials are already becoming a meaningful part of our daily routines.\r\nWe are using the books during small-group and whole-group SEL lessons to talk about emotions in a concrete, visual way. One of our favorite moments so far has been reading together and then using the mirrors to look at our own faces while naming or imagining different emotions. Students practiced matching facial expressions to feelings like happy, worried, frustrated, and calm. For many of my students with extensive support needs, seeing their own faces helped make abstract emotions feel more real and understandable.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were curious and engaged. Several students were immediately drawn to the mirrors, smiling at themselves or making expressions, while others focused closely on the pictures in the books. Even students who are usually hesitant to participate were willing to look, point, or imitate expressions. These small moments of engagement are very meaningful for our learners.\r\n\r\nNext, we will continue using these resources to support emotion identification, self-awareness, and communication. We plan to connect the books and mirrors to daily check-ins, social stories, and regulation strategies, helping students recognize how they feel and practice expressing those feelings in ways that work for them. These materials are supporting steady, important growth in social-emotional learning and are tools we will use again and again.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping make our classroom a more supportive and inclusive place for our students. Your generosity is truly appreciated.","fullyFundedDate":1755728916033,"projectUrl":"project/reading-to-reflect-sel-stories-and-mirr/9460625/","projectTitle":"Reading to Reflect: SEL Stories and Mirrors","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Amy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10078114_orig.jpg?crop=768,768,x0,y69&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753457673125","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10078114"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_40061","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":523,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":36,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":58,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"22.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.2,"schoolId":40061,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bradley Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bradley Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/pajaro-valley-unified-school-district/bradley-elementary-school/40061"}
