With these new stories, students are practicing comprehension strategies like making connections, identifying characters' feelings, and discussing themes such as kindness, perseverance, and respect for differences. The books also support vocabulary growth and help students see that everyone's story matters—including their own!\r\nReading in our classroom is joyful, active, and social. You might see students curled up on the rug during independent reading, whisper-reading with a partner, or eagerly raising their hands to share a connection they made during an afternoon read-aloud. These new books have sparked richer conversations and deeper engagement because students recognize themselves and their classmates in the pages. When children see familiar family structures, languages, traditions, and experiences, they are more confident readers and more excited to participate.\r\nSeveral students have been especially drawn to the new books. Some of my reluctant readers are now choosing books on their own and even asking to reread them. Others light up when they find a character who looks like them or lives a life similar to theirs. I have heard students call out, \"This book is about me!\" and \"This character looks like me!\" Those moments are incredibly powerful and affirming. Thank you for helping create a classroom where every child feels seen, valued, and inspired to read. Your support is making a lasting difference in our students' lives.","fullyFundedDate":1764429867109,"projectUrl":"project/i-see-me-in-what-i-read/9913522/","projectTitle":"I See Me in What I Read","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Teacher Greco","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2848955_orig.jpg?crop=1105,1105,x0,y117&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758835043551","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2848955"},{"teacherId":2084814,"projectId":9729058,"letterContent":"Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous donation. The raffle tickets are going fast as students earn them regularly for making a positive impact in the classroom. They have been \"spent\" on snacks each afternoon and on small toys and candy on Friday afternoon's Ticket Store. The Velcro carpet shapes have facilitated lining up in line order, thereby smoothing transition time. The erasers have kept our erase boards much cleaner and easier to read. The laminating machine will replace our broken one, so we can save important documents year to year. The TPT gift card will allow me to purchase materials to enhance my teaching of indigenous tribes and to celebrate the diversity and varied heritage of my students.\r\n\r\nMy students recently even completed a project-based unit using DonorsChoose proposals as a model, because they have witnessed first-hand the generosity of donors like you.","fullyFundedDate":1760365205029,"projectUrl":"project/odds-and-ends-for-my-new-friends/9729058/","projectTitle":"Odds and Ends for my New Friends","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Spivey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2084814_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1495239947119","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ashley-spivey"},{"teacherId":2848955,"projectId":9730256,"letterContent":"My students and I have worked very hard this year to build an engaging and fun experience in math every day! Routinely I hear students say, \"This is fun!\" \"Ohh, I get it now\" or \"Can you take a picture of my work and send it to my mom?\" The day your donation of golden beads arrived my students were eager to dive into the new material and explore how to add it to their toolbox of math strategies. These hands-on materials initially helped students build a strong foundation in number sense with numbers in the ones, tens, and hundreds. Next, we practiced building numbers and adding 1 more, 10 more, 100 more, and subtracting 1 less, 10 less, and 100 less. The golden beads added in their concrete understanding and tactile input that students were quickly and easily going beyond the given expectation and building numbers in the 1,000s. Now, we are moving into addition and subtraction within 100 using the golden beads. Students will practice regrouping by physically exchanging beads, which helps them truly understand what it means to \"borrow\" –a concept that can be particularly challenging and abstract at this development age. Working together, students explain their math thinking and reasoning and organically discuss errors and different pathways to the same answer. The golden beads have increased the amount of academic discourse as they are easy to use in partnerships and to see specific place values. \r\n\r\nHaving these beads in my classroom helps me provide my students with a tool that supports my teaching practices of creating an environment rooted in a low floor high ceiling philosophy. My students' energy, collaboration, and confidence are palpable to anyone who walks into my classroom. Thank you so much for contributing to these positive outcomes for my young learners.
