Many browsed through the titles during passing periods or downtime, commenting on how refreshing it was to see stories that actually reflected their cultures, identities, and real-life experiences. For students who often feel like outsiders in traditional school settings, just seeing themselves represented in literature was validating.\r\n\r\nWe've started incorporating the new books into our independent reading routines and small group discussions. One student chose a memoir about a refugee's journey and later shared how much it resonated with his own family's story. It led to a thoughtful discussion among peers about displacement, resilience, and the meaning of home. These kinds of conversations have helped build trust and connection in our classroom, allowing students to open up in ways they hadn't before.\r\n\r\nThe social-emotional tools have also found a place in our day-to-day routines. We've introduced simple mindfulness activities and reflection prompts that students can use independently. A few have shared that taking a moment to decompress or journal has helped them focus better and manage stress, especially with the pressures of high school and adapting to a new environment.\r\n\r\nNext Steps:\r\nStudents are now working on a personal reflection project where they choose a book that relates to their identity or helps them understand someone else's experience. They'll write short reflections and pair them with visuals that express how the book impacted their thinking. This is the first step toward a classroom gallery wall that highlights student voices and perspectives.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting this project. These resources are helping students feel more connected—to their learning, to each other, and to themselves.","fullyFundedDate":1739497065924,"projectUrl":"project/building-an-inclusive-library-for-learni/8933402/","projectTitle":"Building an Inclusive Library for Learning and Growth","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Petkovska","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9374461_orig.jpg?crop=713,713,x0,y26&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1702752365120","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9374461"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_82149","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":616,"numTeachers":46,"percentFrplEligible":77,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":11,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":76,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":65.4,"schoolId":82149,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bound Brook High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bound Brook High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/bound-brook-school-district/bound-brook-high-school/82149"}
