When a word feels too big or unfamiliar, they no longer shut down or look around the room for help. They gently scan it, hear it, sometimes even see it translated, and keep going. That moment—when a student realizes, \"I can do this on my own\"—is powerful. For some of my developing readers and emerging bilingual students, this has been the first time they've truly felt independent while reading challenging text.\r\n\r\nThe headphones have made a difference in ways that may seem small but feel huge to a child. Clear, working audio means they can hear every word of a passage, every direction, every question. There's no straining to listen, no distractions from sharing equipment. Just calm, focus, and the space to think. During testing and independent work, that quiet clarity has helped students settle in and trust themselves.\r\n\r\nWhat excites them most isn't just the technology—it's the feeling of being equipped. These tools don't make the work easier. They make it accessible. They allow students who are still growing as readers to experience the same dignity, the same opportunity, and the same sense of accomplishment as their peers. I have watched students sit a little taller, read a little longer, and smile a little wider because they know they have what they need.\r\n\r\nYou didn't just donate supplies. You gave my students independence. You gave them confidence. You reminded them that there are people beyond our classroom who believe in their success.\r\n\r\nFrom my heart and from theirs—thank you. Your generosity is making a lasting difference.","fullyFundedDate":1770476393992,"projectUrl":"project/conquering-the-staarone-tool-at-a-time/10084446/","projectTitle":"Conquering the STAAR—One Tool at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nevels","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10112247_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1770395065495","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10112247"},{"teacherId":9984643,"projectId":9213288,"letterContent":"I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for the generous donation of headphones and adapters to our first-grade classroom. These resources have made a tremendous impact on our students' learning experience and have truly enhanced our ability to use technology as an effective and engaging educational tool.\r\n\r\nBefore receiving the headphones and adapters, many of our students struggled to fully participate in digital activities. Whether it was listening to interactive stories, completing phonics games, or working through individualized lessons, the lack of proper audio equipment made it difficult for students to concentrate and engage with the content. Background noise and shared devices often led to distractions and frustration, which took away from valuable instructional time.\r\n\r\nNow, with access to individual headphones and the necessary adapters, each student can fully immerse themselves in their digital learning environment. They can listen closely to stories being read aloud, follow step-by-step instructions on educational programs, and participate in audio-based activities with ease. This has greatly improved their focus, comprehension, and independence.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting changes we've seen is in our literacy development. Listening to stories read aloud is a key component of early reading instruction, and the headphones have made this experience more personal and effective. Students are now able to listen to stories at their own pace, rewind to hear something again, and follow along with the text more closely. This has supported their vocabulary growth, listening comprehension, and overall enthusiasm for reading.\r\n\r\nThe availability of this equipment has also increased students' confidence and sense of responsibility. They take pride in using the technology appropriately, managing their own devices, and engaging with educational content in a way that feels both fun and meaningful. It's been incredible to see their excitement as they explore new programs and activities that were previously inaccessible or too difficult to manage without the proper tools.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of myself and all of my first-grade students, thank you for providing us with the tools we needed to succeed. Your support has made a lasting difference in our classroom, and we are truly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1743782424093,"projectUrl":"project/helping-little-ears-learn-headphones-ne/9213288/","projectTitle":"Helping Little Ears Learn: Headphones Needed for 1st Graders!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Williams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9984643"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_13584","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":555,"numTeachers":45,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":74,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"12.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":68.8,"schoolId":13584,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bonham Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bonham Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/bryan-independent-school-district/bonham-elementary-school/13584"}
