I am truly grateful and honestly still a little amazed that it was fully funded.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, my students now have access to a beautiful collection of books they can hold, explore, and fall in love with. These are not just books on a shelf. They are daily invitations to curiosity, imagination, and confidence. For many of my students, reading is still something they are growing into, and having the right books in their hands makes all the difference.\r\n\r\nYour generosity helps create a classroom where reading feels joyful, safe, and meaningful. It gives my students the chance to see themselves in stories, to stretch their thinking, and to discover that reading is something they get to do, not something they have to do.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and in the power of literacy. These texts support foundational reading skills like decoding, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary development, while also encouraging students to make personal connections, ask questions, and see themselves as readers. Many of the books introduce themes of kindness, perseverance, curiosity, and belonging...lessons that matter just as much as academic growth. Having access to a variety of engaging, high-interest texts helps students practice choosing books independently and builds confidence in their reading identities.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active, joyful, and social. Students read independently, with partners, and as a whole group, often stopping to talk about favorite parts, surprising details, or characters they relate to. Books are not just assignments here...they are conversation starters, comfort objects, and sparks for imagination. The excitement around new books has created a natural culture of sharing and recommending stories to one another, which is exactly the kind of authentic literacy environment we strive to build.\r\n\r\nSome of our most hesitant readers have shown the biggest growth in enthusiasm. Students who once avoided reading time now eagerly ask when they can choose a new book or reread a favorite. Others take pride in carefully caring for the books and talking about which stories they think their friends will love. Even before the Little Free Library is fully assembled, these books are already planting seeds...of confidence, joy, and a lifelong love of reading...and we are deeply grateful to our donors for helping make that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1761933184870,"projectUrl":"project/rooted-in-reading-growing-readers-one/9641798/","projectTitle":"Rooted in Reading: Growing Readers, One Book at a Time!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hale","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7881412_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758791144532","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/haleofateacher"},{"teacherId":7881412,"projectId":9648027,"letterContent":"When our new pets arrived, the students could hardly contain their excitement. They crowded around the tanks and habitat, pointing out details, asking questions, and even giving suggestions for names. The room was buzzing with joy and curiosity, and it was clear that these animals were going to make a big difference in how my students experience science.\r\n\r\nSince then, our classroom has become a place where science feels alive. Students take turns feeding, observing, and recording what they notice about Marigold and her fish companions. They write in their journals about behaviors, measure water temperatures, and connect what they see to the lessons we study. These daily interactions are helping them grow as scientists, writers, and thinkers, while also teaching responsibility and empathy.\r\n\r\nYour gift has created a space where learning feels personal and exciting. They immediately crowded around to watch Nugget and Noodle (our classroom goldfish) explore their brand new home, pointing out every bubble, plant, and shiny pebble. One student whispered, \"It's like an underwater castle!\" and honestly, that's exactly the kind of magical environment you helped us create.\r\n\r\nSince then, the aquarium has become more than just a pretty sight. It is our daily science lab, our calm down corner, and our constant reminder of responsibility. Students take turns charting water conditions, sketching observations in their journals, and even connecting what they see to our lessons on habitats and ecosystems. One quiet student who rarely volunteers surprised us all by explaining how the filter \"acts like gills\" for the tank. He was so proud to share what he noticed.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our classroom now has a living, breathing resource that sparks curiosity and wonder every single day. Next up, my students are planning a \"Goldfish Diaries\" project where they will write and illustrate short stories from Nugget and Noodle's point of view. Every item you helped provide has found a purposeful place in our day-to-day routine, and I can't begin to tell you how excited my students have been to dive into all the new additions.\r\n\r\nThe grow lights have created a little corner of wonder in our room. Watching our plants thrive under the new grow bulbs has become a daily joy for my students. They love checking in on our \"classroom jungle\" each morning, and it's been a wonderful springboard for science lessons, responsibility, and even journal writing. One student who's usually pretty reserved has taken a real interest in the grow light area, even researching ways to care for our seedlings on his own time—he now proudly wears the unofficial title of \"Plant Manager.\"\r\n\r\nThe aquarium vacuum has made a huge difference in keeping our classroom fish tank crystal clear. Clean water means happier fish—and happier students who love observing them! It's also helped us have deeper conversations about ecosystems, water quality, and taking care of living things. The excitement when we use it is unreal—who knew a gravel vacuum could be so fun?\r\n\r\nOur new binding machine and electric stapler have made publishing student work feel official and important. Now, when my students complete writing projects, we can turn them into real books with spirals and covers. You should see their faces light up when they get to hold a \"published\" copy of their work—it gives them such a sense of pride and ownership. It's even sparked interest in creating poetry books, class magazines, and collaborative stories. I have a few students who have taken charge of the binding process and now ask, \"Can I help publish today's work?\" like little editors-in-training.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped us grow—literally and figuratively.
