Many of my students now choose books during free time and proudly carry them to the carpet to \"read\" using pictures and familiar words. The books have sparked excitement, conversations, and a growing love of stories.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was seeing students carefully spread out on the carpet, pointing to pictures and retelling stories to one another with confidence. These materials have helped build early literacy skills while also creating a calm, joyful environment where students feel safe and excited to learn.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has made a lasting impact on my students' learning and their love for reading. Our reading rocking chairs have become a favorite spot during independent reading time, helping students settle their bodies and focus as they explore books. The fun, colorful pointers are used during shared reading and small groups, allowing students to track print, recognize letters, and build confidence as they \"read\" along. The book organizer has also made a huge difference by giving students easy access to books, empowering them to independently select texts that match their interests. \r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were absolutely thrilled. Their eyes lit up as they saw the bright pointers and cozy reading chairs, and they were eager to try everything right away. Several students asked, \"Can I read there?\" or proudly picked out books on their own for the first time. These resources immediately made our classroom feel more inviting and helped students view reading as something jouyful and exciting. \r\n\r\nAs we continue our literacy instruction, these materials are especially supporting our differentiated reading groups. While I work with small groups on targeted skills like letter sounds, sight words, and early comprehension, other students remain engaged and focused using the rocking chairs and book organizer during independent practice. This allows me to meet each child at their individual level while keeping the entire class actively learning. Your generosity has helped create a calm, engaging literacy environment where every student can grow as a reader. When all of the options arrived the students were so exciting to have new options for our classroom. \r\nOver the course of the day the students are at their tables, in small groups, and on the front carpet for instruction. We have been able to use the flex seating to help with engagement during reading instruction and help the students sit more comfortably during the lesson. A variety of students are chosen each week to use our disc seats to help them be able to wiggle a bit while doing their independent work at their seats. All students were provided a kick band to help them keep their feet and legs active while at their seats. We have also been able to use our desk seats to help students be more engaged and flexible when rotating around the room for small group instruction.\r\nI am so thankful that my classroom was able to add all of these additions to our classroom. The students are always excited to use them and it helps them be more engaged with their literacy instruction. \r\nWe are all so excited to have our new seating and would not be able to have these things without your help.","fullyFundedDate":1760709665158,"projectUrl":"project/flexible-seating-to-help-increase-engage/9831789/","projectTitle":"Flexible Seating to Help Increase Engagement in My Kindergarten Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Shockley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1899117_orig.png?crop=123,123,x0,y7&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760490411954","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/alidunn"},{"teacherId":2288261,"projectId":9829656,"letterContent":"I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donations of books and floor chairs to our classroom. Your support has made a meaningful and immediate difference in the daily experiences of my students.\r\nThe new books have sparked excitement, curiosity, and a renewed love for reading. Students who once struggled to find stories that interested them are now eagerly exploring new genres, trading recommendations, and asking for extra reading time. Their confidence as readers is growing, and the joy they show when they discover a book they connect with is truly priceless.\r\nThe addition of floor chairs has transformed our learning environment. Students now have comfortable, flexible spaces where they can read. These chairs have helped create a welcoming atmosphere where students feel more at ease, focused, and ready to learn. The room feels more like a community space—a place they want to be—because of your generosity.\r\nPlease know that your donation has had a genuine impact not only on our classroom environment, but on the way students see themselves as learners. You have helped create a space where students feel valued, supported, and inspired. The first morning they walked in and saw the updated seating, their faces lit up, and several of them literally ran to try out the wobble stools and cushions before we even started our lesson. It instantly changed the energy in our room. The students now use the whiteboards daily during literacy and math blocks, and it has made small-group instruction so much more interactive. One of my favorite moments so far was during reading groups when a student who usually struggles with confidence volunteered to come up and use the whiteboard to decode a new word. The whole group cheered for her, and she beamed the rest of the day.\r\n\r\nThe new books have also been an absolute hit. I can already see students gravitating toward titles that truly interest them, and our independent reading time feels so much more purposeful. I've caught students swapping books, rereading favorites, and even bringing them to carpet time just to show a friend something cool they found. You gave them stories that reflect their world, spark their imagination, and remind them that reading is something to look forward to, not a chore.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our classroom feels more like a community space than ever before. We are currently working on a literacy project where students choose a character from one of our new books and describe how they changed throughout the story. The flexible seating has made collaboration so natural, and the whiteboards allow them to visually map out their ideas together. None of these meaningful moments would have been possible without you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in my students and making our classroom a place where they feel excited, supported, and truly seen.","fullyFundedDate":1760490780846,"projectUrl":"project/kinders-are-our-future/9826252/","projectTitle":"Kinders Are Our Future!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. BRIGGS","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10311215_orig.jpg?crop=342,341,x0,y4&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760393981250","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10311215"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_44645","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":480,"numTeachers":27,"percentFrplEligible":72,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":24,"percentWhite":24,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":40,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 2","studentTeacherRatio":"17.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":46.2,"schoolId":44645,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Blades Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Blades Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/delaware/seaford-school-district/blades-elementary-school/44645"}
