Thanks to your support, my students and I now have the materials needed to make learning more engaging and effective. The laminator has allowed me to create durable visual aids that reinforce key communication concepts, while the books offer exciting content that sparks curiosity and promotes language development. Some students were so excited when they first saw some of my new games which allowed me to make our sessions a little more fun while still being meaningful.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, my students are continuing to build their communication skills through interactive lessons and individualized support. The next step in our current project involves using these resources to create a personalized communication aids. This will allow them to better express their needs and wants, boosting their confidence in the classroom. Your support has made all of this possible, and I am truly excited to see how these tools will help my students achieve their full potential in the months ahead.","fullyFundedDate":1727462805366,"projectUrl":"project/essential-tools-for-a-new-slp/8573780/","projectTitle":"Essential Tools For a New SLP","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Blackburn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9632233"},{"teacherId":9633091,"projectId":8576620,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for our new resources. You seriously saved us. \r\n\r\nOur students had so much fun digging sand to find dinosaur bones at the sensory table for the dinosaur unit. Our students especially boys are builders. They can spend hours playing Legos. That helps calm down some of the students who tend to get excited too much and keep their hands to themselves.\r\n\r\nThe Space unit is coming up this month. The students have benefitted greatly over the past few months from the materials donated to our classroom. Obviously, when the items first arrived all students were excited to try out the wobbly stools and use the cozy corner items. Students were stunned that donors would be generous enough to donate to our classroom.\r\n\r\nA benefit of receiving the items that I did not anticipate was how the students would step into a leadership position. Students in the classroom worked together to create an organizational system to help all students understand how to use the donated items in a way that allowed everyone access and opportunity. Our inclusive classroom exemplified inclusive values. Using their own check-out system, students are able to use the weighted blanket and stuffed animals as needed to help regulate their bodies and emotions. Arguably, the students are more regulated because they have access to these items within the classroom. Not only that, but students can use, and refer to, the posters in the corner to help them independently regulate their emotions and quickly return to their work. It's typical to see students using the cozy corner materials or check-out system without the stigma of feeling \"other\". \r\n\r\nOne of the largest impacts on our classroom has been the variable-height wobbly stools. Students of all sizes can use the wobbly stools to help their bodies move throughout the day. When students are feeling dysregulated, they can use a wobbly stool to spin, move, or balance throughout the day. This year, more than others, seems to have a high amount of students who have been diagnosed with ADD and ADHD. Because of the generous donations to our classroom, several students can use these tools to help regulate their bodies and focus better throughout the class. I have had students tell me that these devices helped them greatly, \"It helps me focus on my work when I feel like I just want to move,\" (4th grade student). Another student noted, \"The wobbly stools help me a lot. Sometimes I bother the other kids because I'm moving a lot or standing, and the wobbly stool helps me move without making anyone mad at me,\" (4th grade student). In the future, I plan on trying to get more of these stools into the classroom to increase my ability to help students. \r\n\r\nOur classroom is absolutely grateful for the generous donations we've received. I am so thankful to be supported in helping all students learn in a way that benefits them instead of forcing them into a box.","fullyFundedDate":1727462924679,"projectUrl":"project/incredibly-inclusive-classroom/8576633/","projectTitle":"Incredibly Inclusive Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Nicholls","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9265840"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_104415","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":500,"numTeachers":35,"percentFrplEligible":17,"percentAsian":9,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":59,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":57.9,"schoolId":104415,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Black Forest Hills Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Black Forest Hills Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/cherry-creek-school-district-5/black-forest-hills-elementary-school/104415"}
