For many 5th graders, the idea of using a lock and managing a locker in middle school can feel intimidating. Having these locks in our classroom will give them the opportunity to practice and build confidence before they make that big transition. What is often a source of stress will become a skill they can master in a supportive environment.\r\nWe will be using the locks during small group lessons and practice stations in the Spring. Students will take turns unlocking and re-locking them, and we'll even create fun challenges and competitions to keep them motivated. I am especially looking forward to the moment when a student who may be struggling finally opens a lock independently, it will be a celebration of perseverance and confidence.\r\nThanks to this funding, students will have hands-on experience with a skill that often causes anxiety. This preparation will make their transition to middle school smoother and less stressful, equipping them with both confidence and readiness.","fullyFundedDate":1746785719170,"projectUrl":"project/unlock-the-unknown/9229721/","projectTitle":"Unlock the Unknown!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Pye","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9642538_orig.jpg?crop=2544,2544,x0,y424&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724442364182","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9642538"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_41161","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":320,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":60,"percentIndigenous":14,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":41.5,"schoolId":41161,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Big Lake Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Big Lake Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alaska/mat-su-borough-school-district/big-lake-elementary-school/41161"}
