They immediately wanted to explore the new paints, stickers, and tools, and their faces lit up as they realized the possibilities now open to them. They even asked me to tell everyone who donated thank you! For many of my students, this was the first time they had access to high-quality materials, and it made them feel like true artists.\r\n\r\nWe've already used the supplies to create back to school posters, line art, symmetry projects, and it was incredible to see each student's personality shine through in their work. The variety of materials allowed them to make choices about their style and medium, which built confidence and ownership in their projects. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are getting into the holiday seasons (halloween, thanksgiving, christmas, etc) where art plays a huge role in bringing the community together. Thanks to your generosity, my students now have the tools to bring their ideas and celebrations to life, and they can't wait to share their art with the whole school.","fullyFundedDate":1754426014258,"projectUrl":"project/keeping-creativity-alive-in-middle-schoo/9450171/","projectTitle":"Keeping Creativity Alive in Middle School Art","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Berkson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9928812_orig.jpg?crop=271,271,x36,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740160986665","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/missbsclassroom"},{"teacherId":9928812,"projectId":9124989,"letterContent":"Wow! The materials were introduced to the children and they were engaged in conversations, asking questions and exploring the different materials. Children began to create, build structures, make robots, make predictions, problem solve and plan for persons and animals to occupy the buildings created. Children interacted with the egg incubator, lab sets, magnetic tiles, engineering building sets, life cycle models, magnifiers, number robots, and insect life cycle games. Children explored and books were read to children about engineers, their jobs, seeds, rocks, and other topics from the Early Learning Engineers and Early Learning Science Exploration Books. Through various classroom themes children learned about change and growth. We provided lessons and activities about life cycles through the topics of seeds, gardening, insects such as ladybugs, butterflies, bees, ants, and finally the life cycles of baby chicks. \r\nChildren represented their understanding of the life cycles through the use of models, playdough, art materials and their own drawings. One of the activities children engaged in was the life cycle of the ladybug. Children represented the egg, larvae, pupa, and adult stages using art materials of their choice, paintings, drawings, and verbal communication of the life stages they observed. Children used the magnetic tiles to build ladybug \"houses\" with a room for their food including aphids. \r\n\r\nThe children were in awe, surprised, and excited. Children became inquisitive, and anxious to explore the materials. They immediately began to work in groups or alone to explore the materials based on their interests. Children were gasping, laughing and talkative about what they were seeing and experiencing.\r\n\r\nThe next steps involved predicting what the chicks would look like which was an opportunity to design activities about growth and change examining as appropriate the stages of development of a human. We touched upon the embryo and its development and growth until the baby is born. The stages covered up into and including age 5 kindergarten age. Children were able to compare the life cycles of insects and baby chicks to a human newborn. They were able to discuss that insects, animals and human babies are taken care of by someone to help them \"be born\" and then take care of them afterward. They understand that care means feeding, cleaning, and nurturing like a \"mommy or daddy does\". Children also began to understand the meaning of the word responsibility. When a chick chirps at night and wakes up the household and/or a baby cries at night doing the same children understand that someone has to check on them to care for them even if they are sleepy and want to stay in the bed. Responsibility may include feeding the baby chicks and making sure they have water. with parental supervision. Moreover, children are able to connect and discover more about the young baby chicks from to a fertilized egg to hatching ending with a young baby chick in their midst. They get to see firsthand that the baby chick will grow and change and so will they grow and change.\r\n\r\nAfter the activities involving the 21 days awaiting for the chicks to hatch we involved the families and school by posing the question to all as a fun learning activity\" What came first the chicken or the egg? Children and the whole family discussed the question and came up with an answer. Those answers were shared and we had great discussions. Everyone became involved in sharing their ideas based on theory, science, philosophy and other sources. It was fun and exciting and the school and the community responded","fullyFundedDate":1715169178253,"projectUrl":"project/young-children-discovering-babies-in-our/8213404/","projectTitle":"Young Children Discovering Babies In Our Midst!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Anderson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9467588"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7776","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":588,"numTeachers":26,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":8,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":84,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"22.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":85.8,"schoolId":7776,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Beulah Payne Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Beulah Payne Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/inglewood-unified-school-district/beulah-payne-elementary-school/7776"}
