They did not dissect last year so they were so excited to get the opportunity to dissect this year. They were so happy that donors were willing to donate their own money to help supply their classroom. While some students were a little scared to dissect they had so much fun!! It really is a great way to learn about how they function by being able to see them hands on.\r\n\r\nI am so excited to be able to continue dissecting in future years since I have all the supplies I need. The next steps for this year as we wrap up the school year is 7th grade is going to be doing a project on invasive species. They will create a wanted poster for an invasive species and the harm it does to the ecosystem. For 8th grade, students will be doing a human impact on the environment research project where they will research about different types of pollution and come up with solutions to this problem.","fullyFundedDate":1746786212025,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-science-dissections/9326718/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Science: Dissections!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jensen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9980756_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y38&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746562908815","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9980756"},{"teacherId":9980756,"projectId":9258204,"letterContent":"My students were so excited to be able to do a hands-on photosynthesis lab! Students placed the plant Elodea in a test tube with water underneath the clamp lamp. This light energy (mimicking the sun) helped the Elodea undergo photosynthesis. Students saw evidence of this by seeing oxygen bubbles being produced, which they counted as they collected data. They also looked at Elodea in the dark to see that photosynthesis does not occur, as well as, looking at the plant underneath the microscope.\r\n\r\nMy students were so happy when I told them we got a donor to be able to perform a lab. They were so excited and had such an amazing time doing this experiment. I can't wait to use the clamp lamps for more experiments in the future. I also plan to use the clamp lamps when we discuss lunar cycles. The clamp lamp can again act as my sun in simulations.\r\n\r\nStudents are going to be learning about relationships in ecosystems next. I plan to have students create various food webs and food chains for specific ecosystems. They will create a poster with their group and present it to the class.","fullyFundedDate":1745528882183,"projectUrl":"project/photosynthesis-lab/9258204/","projectTitle":"Photosynthesis Lab","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jensen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9980756_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y38&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746562908815","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9980756"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_25217","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":605,"numTeachers":27,"percentFrplEligible":25,"percentAsian":47,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":19,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":21,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"22.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":93.3,"schoolId":25217,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bert M Lynn Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bert M Lynn Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/torrance-unified-school-district/bert-m-lynn-middle-school/25217"}
