We were able to harvest bean sprouts, tomatoes and peppers that we sampled in the classroom and shared with out families. We have recently planted cilantro, parsley, and squash in the classroom garden. The students were able to watch the cycle of fish waste fertilizing the plants, and the plants keeping the fish water clean and clear.\r\n\r\nI can't thank you enough for the impact that you have made on my students and families. The best thing that has developed from the garden is the parent participation. My students talk about the garden and the fish so much until the parents have been coming to school at open house events to check out the garden. We were able to create a safe space for our entire grade level, when a child is not feeling well. In only one week, we have used it twice already. We were able to give sick children a comfortable place to rest, and it included a variety of soft toys and pillows. We also had Lysol to clean and sanitize the area, thanks to the generous donations.\r\nWe are able to clean and sanitize our floors and carpets thanks to the generous donations. Due to our children having special needs, that is super important for us. We are able to use different cloths from the rest of the school, and stay in our little area. We are not tracking germs from the other part of the school into our area. Cleaning supplies are expensive, and we have to provide them ourselves. The families that we serve are low-income. Quinn were so excited when we announced that our Caring for Cancer project was fully funded. It helped to confirm how special our project was and how it touched the hearts of others.\r\n\r\nWe gathered in the Media Center where we set up an assembly line of our materials to make packing our gift bags easier. Students wrote and decorated positive notes for our cancer recipients. They then went through the assembly line, stuffing gift bags with comforting essentials, along with their hand written and decorated notes of support. Our District Public Relations Director, our local newspaper the Sun Journal , and our local news station WITN attended our event, took photos, and interviewed students and staff about our project. It was a joyful and thoughtful day remembering our beloved co-worker who we lost to cancer, as we honored her memory by passing on comfort and support for future cancer patients in our community.\r\n\r\nOur first year we were able to make 60 care packages and this year we were able to make 100. My students absolutely love the new rug for circle time. The entire first week, we couldn't even have a regular circle time, because the rug was so popular. They wanted to sit close to their letter(first letter of their name). My students are learning the alphabet right off the carpet! They love the texture and colors. This rug has been an amazing teaching tool, and that was a bonus. I only requested the rug because they needed a place to sit for circle time.\r\n The timers are helpful tools for each section of the classroom. When an activity has more than one set of friends that want to participate, the timer is a wonderful device to have to demonstrate taking turns. The large timer is great for entire class transitions, and a wonderful reminder to the teachers as well.\r\n The weighted vest has been such a helpful calming tool for a few of my students with autism. The vest gives them the ability to stay in one place and be calm. This allows them to complete work and other activities which they could not do under normal circumstances. We wanted to give each student the ability to have visual aids that would help them throughout the school day. With the printer and paper, I was able to create a picture schedule that the children could take turns manipulating. They have pictures to label their individual art galleries, family pictures, and center tags that are pictures. The students have been able to make easier transitions around the classroom, and remember where they are supposed to be, because of the helpful labels and pictures!\r\n The tablets that were given to us by your generous donations have helped our children with communication skills. We have been able to download programs that we use for communication that were recommended by the schools speech language pathologist. We have apps that teach letter writing, and it is wonderful for the students that will be transitioning to kindergarten in the next school year. The students are able to take pictures of their work and send it to their parents via email (with teacher help).\r\n The art center has become a favorite classroom zone due to the beautiful colors of paper and markers that we received.
