I've had more and more students over the past few years tell me they want to read Manga or Graphic Novels, and less traditional novels. This project aimed to meet that need. Through the funding of this project, we were able to add many new and exciting new graphic novel titles that were either student requests or recommended by other ELA teachers. These additions to our classroom library have been a huge selling point to my students as we started this new school year. Students have been checking them out like crazy, excited to read something new or a genre they've never experienced before. This got me to thinking: how often did my students show up to school without these items? How many times did some of them feel self-conscious at school, surrounded by their peers, without deodorant or having forgotten to brush their teeth? Where else did they go to find these types of materials during the school day? This need sparked my imagination, and led to the creation of a \"Care Cart\" project on Donor's Choose. That project has transformed from a cart into a permanent and safe space in my classroom where students (sometimes not even my own students) utilize these types of freely available items throughout the school year. It has made me a better educator to provide an environment where my students don't feel the need to risk embarrassment or judgement when asking for these types of items. They feel comfortable. They feel at home. They feel supported and loved and respected - all of the feelings I strive to create in my classroom environment. You have helped me extend that support through your generous donation to my \"Hygiene Help Hub\" project. Thank you so much for your donation and helping me continue this effort in my classroom. \r\nIt is very greatly appreciated.","fullyFundedDate":1746641887258,"projectUrl":"project/hygiene-help-hub/9297041/","projectTitle":"Hygiene Help Hub","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hamilton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5365997_orig.png?crop=1413,1413,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1650984246464","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-hamilton-bpks"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_57585","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":181,"numTeachers":15,"percentFrplEligible":54,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":81,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":76.4,"schoolId":57585,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Belle Plaine High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Belle Plaine High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kansas/belle-plaine-unified-school-district-357/belle-plaine-high-school/57585"}
