Your generosity has had a positive impact on not only our study body but also our teachers and staff. Belle Chasse Elementary School services over 600 students in grades 2-4 and as the school based Occupational Therapist, I am joyful to report on the many options both our general education and special education students have access to during the school day. Having multiple designated sensory spaces on campus helps to promote self-regulation skills and to meet our students' sensory needs in order to reach their potential for success and progression towards their academic goals.\r\n\r\n We have a large sensory room equipped with sensory centers such as a calm down space with a tent, a soothing light and sound machine, weighted blankets, and anxiety reducing hand held fidgets and manipulatives, a center focus on activities that are alerting and promote organization and focus with a balance beam and ball, a swing apparatus, and a trampoline and crash pad, to name a few. The biggest hit with the students has been the two swing apparatus attachments purchased with Donor's Choose funding: the climbing rope ladder and saucer swing. The addition of these items allows for a rotation of attachments to meet students' individual needs. \r\n\r\n Your support has facilitated the ability to make TWO new sensory areas on campus. A sensory pathway/walk was installed in a different hallway with a wall mounted Dinosaur \"busy board\" and a mini-sensory room was created in yet another hallway. The ability to have multiple sites on campus allows for quick access to materials when needed. The green fuzzy rug is a comforting spot to have students engage in fine motor activities within the occupational therapy classroom. \r\n\r\n Some of the items purchased were distributed to specific classrooms; our self-contained classroom received the self-regulation/emotional awareness customized check in visual board which the student use daily upon entering the classroom to express how they are feeling; 4 of the inclusion classrooms received a seated lapdesk for students to use when sitting on the carpet copying from the board to promote visual motor skills and improve posture and ergonomics; the textured anxiety reducing stickers were placed on numerous students' desks throughout the grade levels.\r\n\r\n Our school's theme this year is \"BCES is Wild About Learning\" and the giant jungle themed coloring poster was placed in the teacher's lounge with informational handouts for teachers on the benefits of working on vertical surfaces and the skills involved in coloring activities. This has been a huge success with teachers reporting increased understanding on the complexity of skills involved with coloring and/or working on vertical surfaces and expressed joy in the few moments they have spent adding color to our group project.\r\n\r\n I will include pictures of the your donation in action! I am thankful for the time you spent to acknowledge this project and your donation to support my efforts.","fullyFundedDate":1747336679516,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-room-swag/9337423/","projectTitle":"Sensory Room Swag","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ferguson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5708602_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753194970923","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5708602"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_124373","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":543,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":58,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":65,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"2 - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"12.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.4,"schoolId":124373,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Belle Chasse Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Belle Chasse Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/louisiana/plaquemines-parish-school-district/belle-chasse-elementary-school/124373"}
