In my position, I am able to help fulfil those social and emotional needs that might go unmet. Through the kindness of donors like you, I was able to acquire resources that I can use to create a connection with students. \r\nI am able to use the games that were purchased as ice breakers and skill builders for my students. Through play, students are more willing to open up and share about their situations. I also use these games to teach my students the skills they are lacking to be successful in the school setting. By building social/emotional skills, I am giving them the tools they need to be successful in the future. \r\nPicture books are also an awesome tool for opening discussion and lessons. By using the picture books that were purchased, I can lead into lessons with individuals, small groups, or a whole class of students. This is a great way to introduce concepts and follow up on lessons. The books I chose have relatable characters, which is very important. \r\nIn conclusion, having resources purchased through Donors Choose makes a big difference in the approach I am able to take with students. Because of the kindness of others, I can provide my little learners with what they need to be successful.","fullyFundedDate":1738762408050,"projectUrl":"project/sel-rings-a-bell-making-all-students-re/9094346/","projectTitle":"SEL Rings a Bell, Making All Students Ready to Learn","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wiggs","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9914902"},{"teacherId":9722726,"projectId":9009249,"letterContent":"100% think the toys have made a difference in helping our wheelchair-bound student feel included and accepted by her peers. \r\nLast week, after being silent all year in class, she raised her hand to share and spoke so confidently! I love to read them, too! My lessons always go so well when I read to them. The books always spark great discussion, and the students enjoy talking about what we've read and relating the content to the topic we are learning. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for the generous gift of many box sets of Ninja Life Hacks books. Some of my items were out of stock, so I was able to replace those with other items. I was very happy with my final selection. No fewer than 375 students have been able to benefit from using these items. I used them primarily in my classroom guidance lessons, which I do with grades K-5. \r\n\r\nGrades 3, 4, and 5 loved doing the sticky situations cards. They love to be able to chat with each other, and this gave them an opportunity to do just that without getting in trouble for not listening! Walking around the room, I heard many engaging conversations discussing the Scholastic News Sticky Situations cards and their ideas for possible solutions. I was impressed at the out-of-the-box thinking and the extent that students creatively problem-solved together. It was great practice in listening to differing perspectives of their peers. I stressed that as I walked around the room, I'd be listening for how well teams worked with each other and considered each person's viewpoint. For those teams who did run into difficulties in hearing each other out and making sure each member got to contribute, it was a great teachable moment to help coach them through how to work through the issues they were having. \r\n\r\nKindergarten and first graders really enjoyed the exercises on the Junior Learning 50 Emotions Exercises cards. I led them through activities on several different cards, including breathing exercises and guessing each other's facial expressions by slowly revealing their face from behind a piece of paper. They learned that feelings are shown not just by a person's smile or frown, but also by their eyebrows, eyes, and even body language. \r\nMy small groups loved the social skills board game I chose in lieu of the bullies and bystanders board game that was out of stock. They thought they were just having fun, but I had the satisfaction of knowing they were learning important skills about manners, emotions, and conflict resolution that would help them in their daily lives!\r\n\r\nThe Abilitations Aquarium calming gel pad was a hit with all my students. They seemed to be drawn to it automatically, spending time looking at the fish inside and touching the cool, squishy surface. For many, it helped them disengage from their big emotions they were having when they came in there and enter into a calmer state. \r\n\r\nFor those times that required students to do paper-and-pencil activities, the workbook, Shell Education 180 Days of Social Learning, was excellent. It's what I've been looking for for a long time. It was more than just busy work. It covered relevant SEL topics in a relatable, relevant, and thorough fashion. I can't recommend it highly enough. \r\n\r\nIt's with heartfelt gratitude that I thank you for your generosity. I will continue to be a good steward of my Donors Choose inventory, making sure it reaches as many students as possible!","fullyFundedDate":1725456501981,"projectUrl":"project/sel-tools-needed-to-make-my-students-for/8728570/","projectTitle":"SEL Tools Needed to Make My Students Forget They're Learning!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Amber","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9722726_orig.jpg?crop=911,911,x54,y58&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742182567509","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9722726"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_92358","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":370,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":56,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":77,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":80.6,"schoolId":92358,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bel Aire Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bel Aire Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/tullahoma-city-school-district/bel-aire-elementary-school/92358"}
