Thank you so much for helping me get this assessment kit. As soon as it arrived, I set about getting it put together so I could test my students. There was a bunch of copying of the assessment pages to do and separating the books into the leveled folders, but I finished quickly and was able to start testing just a few days after the kit arrived.\r\n\r\nThough testing is not one of my students' favorite things to do, they commented on how they thought the books they had to read for the assessment were on interesting topics while not being too long. One even asked if I knew of any other books by the same author as the book they had just finished!\r\n\r\nI am looking forward to knowing more precisely the reading levels of all of my upper grade students, so I can work with them at the correct level. We introduced the series during our daily reading time, and I gathered the students around on the new stool to read aloud the first chapter. The vibrant illustrations, adventurous plot, and relatable characters instantly drew them in. Several students eagerly asked if they could check out the next book as soon as we finished, sparking friendly debates about who would get to read which title first. The stool also became a favorite \"author's chair\" for students to share their own writing during class.\r\n\r\nOne specific project that grew from these materials was our \"Dragon Masters Adventure Journal.\" After reading together, students wrote their own short chapters, imagining themselves as dragon masters, describing their dragons, their magical powers, and their quests. We combined their stories into a class anthology, complete with illustrations they proudly displayed in our reading corner. Having the actual series available inspired them to think more creatively and write more descriptively.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be continuing the series as small groups rotate through guided reading sessions, using the books to strengthen comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency. The stools will remain a key part of our interactive lessons, providing a special place for student authors and readers to share their work. Thanks to these resources, our classroom has not only grown in reading engagement but also in imagination and community.","fullyFundedDate":1744232408109,"projectUrl":"project/marvelous-magical-books/9230550/","projectTitle":"Marvelous Magical Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gilstrap","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4427141_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753122478834","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/christina-gilstrap"},{"teacherId":7070684,"projectId":9194105,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom project Building Thinking Classrooms: Vertical Whiteboards. They had rich discussions as the person writing could only write what their partner explained and ended up working collaboratively to solve the math problem. They had ample space to show their thinking. At the end of the lesson, we were able to reflect and look at other partnerships thinking by visiting other boards. They had been saving their star cards to \"buy\" something cool from the prize box, since all I had were (according to them) prizes for the little kids. All three packs of baseball cards were gone in the first two week, and most of the matchbox cars were snatched up, too.\r\n\r\nThe kindergarten-4th grade loved the slime and the glider planes.
