Thanks to your support, my 4th- and 5th-grade students participated in a hands-on cow eye dissection. This experience has already become a lifelong memory for many of them. For most of my students, this was their very first time engaging in a dissection, and while they were a little nervous at the start, their hesitation quickly turned into excitement, curiosity, and authentic scientific engagement.\r\n\r\nThis lab did more than give them a memorable STEM experience; it opened doors to future dreams. Several students shared that they are now interested in medical or science-related careers. The activity also connected beautifully with what they were learning in their general education classrooms, where their reading and writing focused on sight and the brain. Your support made this powerful, interdisciplinary learning possible.\r\n\r\nWe are thrilled to continue this journey with the upcoming squid dissection in the spring, and the students are already counting down the days. Thank you again for helping create meaningful, inspiring opportunities that spark wonder and confidence in young scientists. Your generosity is shaping futures in ways you may never fully realize.","fullyFundedDate":1758309249170,"projectUrl":"project/dissecting-discoveries-seeing-science/9713594/","projectTitle":"Dissecting Discoveries: Seeing Science, Sparking STEM Careers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Parsons","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7109917_orig.jpg?crop=716,716,x332,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1588964411609","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7109917"},{"teacherId":7109917,"projectId":9336064,"letterContent":"I want to extend my deepest appreciation for your generous contributions, which made it possible for my classroom to receive the Scholastic Let's Find Out magazines, Science Spin magazines, and Guided Science Reader book sets. Your support has had an immediate and meaningful impact on the learning experiences of my Kindergarten through 2nd-grade students. These early learners are naturally curious, eager to explore, and full of questions about the world around them. Because of your generosity, I can place high-quality, developmentally appropriate nonfiction materials directly into their hands, resources that bring science and social studies concepts to life in exciting, accessible, and memorable ways. For many of my students, especially those who may not have access to books and magazines at home, this is their very first experience with rich informational texts designed specifically for young readers. You have opened the door to deeper understanding, broadened perspectives, and daily moments of discovery that truly matter.\r\n\r\nWith the Let's Find Out and Science Spin magazines, my students are learning to make meaningful connections between classroom content and real-world topics. These resources support our science and social studies standards while presenting information through colorful photographs, simple diagrams, and kid-friendly explanations. My students are already showing new levels of engagement as they explore topics like weather, animal needs, maps, habitats, holidays, and important community helpers. Each issue sparks discussion, encourages critical thinking, and allows even my hesitant readers to feel successful and confident. The Guided Science Readers have also quickly become a beloved part of our classroom library. Students light up when they choose a book and proudly read about penguins, volcanoes, plants, or simple machines. These books are building foundational reading skills, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension, while simultaneously nurturing a love of science. It has been amazing to watch my students grow as readers, scientists, and explorers.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has made these experiences possible. In a Title I school like ours, every contribution has a powerful ripple effect, and your support ensures that my students have access to learning materials that enrich their curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. You have helped me create a classroom where reading and science feel joyful, hands-on, and meaningful, where students can see themselves as learners who are capable, smart, and excited to ask questions. Thank you for believing in my students and in the importance of early learning. Your generosity is shaping not only their academic success but also their confidence, their creativity, and their future opportunities. We are truly grateful for your investment in our classroom community and for helping our youngest learners grow through high-quality, engaging content. Thank you for making a difference that my students and I will remember for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1757270572978,"projectUrl":"project/exploring-the-world-scholastic-learning/9336064/","projectTitle":"Exploring the World: Scholastic Learning for Curious Young Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Parsons","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7109917_orig.jpg?crop=716,716,x332,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1588964411609","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7109917"},{"teacherId":8910382,"projectId":9315236,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous donation of tape and glue, my TK–5th grade STEAM students have been able to fully engage in hands-on, real-world challenges. These resources have already been used in projects like building animal replicas to showcase internal and external structures, constructing hurricane proof houses, and designing model habitats for small creatures. Having sturdy adhesives on hand has allowed me to plan lessons with more ambitious goals, knowing students can take their ideas through multiple iterations without the frustration of materials failing too soon.\r\n\r\nWhen I first brought out the new supplies, I immediately noticed a shift in how students approached their work. Instead of holding back, they took creative risks, trying out larger or more complex designs because they trusted the materials would support their ideas. As a teacher, it was powerful to see how such simple tools gave students the freedom to focus on problem-solving and critical thinking, rather than being limited by what we had available.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are beginning projects that connect science learning to environmental stewardship, such as designing prototypes that could help protect local wildlife. I know the tape and glue you provided will continue to be central to the projects, allowing students to bring abstract ideas into tangible form. Your support has not only provided materials but also expanded what I can ask of my students and what they believe they are capable of creating.","fullyFundedDate":1748021483802,"projectUrl":"project/holding-it-together/9315236/","projectTitle":"Holding it Together","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Uhrlaub","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8910382_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746293817717","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8910382"},{"teacherId":8910382,"projectId":7333877,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the generous donation of nonfiction and fiction science books for our STEAM classroom. These texts have become an incredible tool for introducing students to skills such as asking scientific questions, making predictions, and drawing connections between what they read and what they design or build. The nonfiction titles help students strengthen research and critical thinking skills by connecting real-world science concepts to their projects, while the fiction selections spark creativity and allow them to imagine possibilities through stories that weave science into engaging narratives. Together, they provide an essential balance of knowledge and inspiration.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading looks dynamic—students curl up with books in quiet corners, share discoveries with peers, and use what they've read as springboards for hands-on challenges. I've noticed particular excitement from a group of upper-grade students who love poring over books about space exploration; they've started sketching their own rocket designs after reading. Younger students gravitate toward illustrated life science books, and I often see them comparing the animals they read about with our classroom projects. We also have been able to compare and contrast Mango with our axolotl, Oscar. Though they are reptiles and amphibians, there are many similarities. Students have been researching how they are the same and different from each other. We also got to witness Mango shed for the first time.
