Because of you, our library is already becoming a place where students feel comfortable creating and making the space their own. As I step into my first year as a high school campus librarian, this support means more than I can easily put into words.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, some students began sketching ideas for bookmarks inspired by books they love, while others picked up the yarn and learned how to crochet together through trial and error. The whiteboard has quickly turned into a shared space where students respond to prompts and recommend books to one another. They help each other and treat the library like it truly belongs to them.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these materials will continue to shape how students learn in the library. They immediately started talking through ideas for where the lights should go, which posters they wanted to highlight, and how to make the library feel cozy and inviting. Seeing their excitement turn into focus as they began planning reminded me how powerful hands-on work can be.\r\n\r\nStudents worked in small groups to design and build winter displays throughout the library and makerspace stations. They used the bulletin board sets to create reading displays, then tested different placements for the birch trees and fireplace prop to shape the atmosphere of each space. One group took ownership of a reading nook and adjusted the lighting several times until it felt \"just right,\" while another group used the dry erase pockets to sketch and revise their display plans before putting anything up. The book box became a shared project, with students discussing how to decorate it and where it would be most visible to the school community.","fullyFundedDate":1765204714548,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-winter-makerspace-project/9929348/","projectTitle":"Hands-on Winter Makerspace Project","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Guerrier","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4875990_272x272.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1531978111924","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/cguerrier"},{"teacherId":4875990,"projectId":9677602,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for helping bring board games into our school library. Some who used to walk straight through now stop to play a game or challenge their friends to a game of Chess or UNO during lunch. One student who had never checked out a book before now comes almost every day to challenge friends to a quick match. It's helping him see the library as a place where he belongs.\r\n\r\nThese games have also let me build the kind of makerspace our students were hoping for, giving them more ways to socialize and practice skills like strategy and teamwork. They have already changed the way students interact with both reading and food. Many of my students are interested in cooking but do not always have access to cookbooks or beginner-friendly resources, so these titles give them a place to start. Students are practicing real cooking-related skills as they read, such as following step-by-step directions, learning new ingredients, comparing recipe styles, and talking through how they would prepare a dish.\r\n\r\nThe cookbooks have also made reading feel more hands-on. Students sit together and discuss which recipes seem possible to make at home, which ones match foods they have seen in anime, and which ingredients they might want to try for the first time. This has created a more social and curious atmosphere in the library and has been especially helpful for students who usually tell me they do not know what to read. The connection to food gives them something familiar to hold onto while they build confidence with reading.\r\n\r\nSome of the biggest surprises have come from students who rarely check out books at all. A few of them have already borrowed these cookbooks more than once, and they come back excited to share what they tried or what they want to attempt next. It has been a meaningful shift to see students approach reading through something they genuinely enjoy.","fullyFundedDate":1759684613500,"projectUrl":"project/mangas-on-the-menu-in-the-library/9788564/","projectTitle":"Manga's on the Menu in the Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Guerrier","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4875990_272x272.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1531978111924","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/cguerrier"},{"teacherId":4505653,"projectId":9814038,"letterContent":"Thank you for your kindness and support.
