They were eager to look through the books, choose what they wanted to read, and begin using them in our classroom. My students are working hard to become biliterate, and having engaging books in Spanish makes that goal feel even more exciting and achievable. Thanks to our generous donors, they now have more opportunities to strengthen their Spanish while discovering the joy of reading.\r\n\r\nOne of their favorites has been *La telaraña de Carlota*, which we are reading together for our class book study. My students are enjoying following the characters and discussing the story with their classmates. Through this book, they are practicing important 5th grade reading skills such as analyzing character traits, identifying cause and effect, determining the main idea, quoting accurately from the text, building vocabulary, and using text evidence to support their thinking.\r\n\r\nThese books are also helping my students work toward a very special goal: earning their Biliteracy Award in the spring! Students are working toward reading 10 books in Spanish, writing about their reading, and demonstrating their ability to read and write in Spanish. They are proud and excited about becoming biliterate, and these books are helping make that possible. Everyone helps clean up and takes pride in the cleanliness of our classroom.
