Your contributions have had a meaningful impact on my students' daily learning experience and have helped create a more consistent, organized, and engaging environment for instruction.\r\n\r\nMy students are curious, hardworking, and full of energy. They come to class each day ready to learn, ask questions, and challenge themselves. What I appreciate most about them is their determination; they continue to try their best even when the work is difficult, and they support one another throughout the learning process.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, we are able to use essential classroom resources that make a real difference in our daily routines. Students use pencils every day to take notes, show their thinking in math, complete practice problems, and revise their work as they grow in understanding. Batteries help keep our calculators and other instructional tools functioning so students can stay focused on learning without interruption. Expo board cleaner allows us to maintain a clear and organized whiteboard, which is a central part of our instruction where we model strategies, break down problems, and make student thinking visible.\r\n\r\nWhile these supplies may seem small, they play an important role in keeping our classroom running smoothly. They help reduce interruptions, increase student engagement, and ensure that every learner can fully participate in instruction.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw these materials available and ready for use, there was immediate excitement and appreciation. Something as simple as having a pencil available or knowing their calculator would work when needed helped students feel prepared and supported.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will continue using these resources as they engage in more rigorous math learning that requires perseverance, collaboration, and clear communication of their thinking. As they solve multi-step problems, justify their reasoning, and work through challenges, these tools help them stay focused on what matters most—their learning and growth.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity and for helping create a classroom where students are equipped, confident, and ready to succeed every day.","fullyFundedDate":1764699763417,"projectUrl":"project/powering-our-classroom-pencils-batteri/9906915/","projectTitle":"Powering Our Classroom: Pencils, Batteries, and Clean Whiteboards","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brown","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6371424_orig.jpg?crop=507,507,x100,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1554532325231","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bdscarecloset"},{"teacherId":6371424,"projectId":9906860,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting our classroom and helping provide resources that make a meaningful difference for my students. Students used the new hole punchers to add reference pages and class notes to their binders and proudly assembled materials using the staplers. What might seem like a simple task became an opportunity for students to take ownership of their learning. Several students commented on how much easier it was to keep everything together and find important resources when they needed them.\r\n\r\nWe use these supplies daily to organize project packets, create study guides, maintain math notebooks, and store important class materials. The paper organizers have helped establish clear systems for distributing and collecting assignments, allowing students to transition more smoothly between activities and spend more time focused on learning.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue building their organizational skills while working on multi-step projects, maintaining their math notebooks, and preparing resources to support their learning throughout the year. When the materials arrived, students were excited to see supplies that would help make our classroom more organized, interactive, and engaging. The colorful storage bins and paper trays immediately sparked conversations about our new math stations, and students were eager to begin using them.\r\n\r\nWe have been using the EXPO dry erase markers, loose-leaf paper, and organizational supplies to create structured math stations where students can work independently and collaboratively. One memorable moment occurred during a problem-solving lesson when students used whiteboards and markers to share different solution strategies. Students who are often reluctant to participate felt more comfortable taking risks because they could easily revise their work and explain their thinking to their peers.\r\n\r\nThe storage bins and letter trays have helped keep station materials organized and accessible, allowing students to transition smoothly between activities and spend more time learning. Even small organizational improvements have made a big difference in helping students stay focused and engaged.\r\n\r\nThe ergonomic trackball mouse has also been a valuable addition, supporting technology-based learning activities and making digital tasks more accessible and efficient during instruction.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue using these resources as they work through multi-step problem-solving tasks, collaborative learning activities, and small-group instruction. While many people use technology at home, calculators in the classroom serve a unique purpose—they help students focus on understanding mathematical concepts and problem-solving strategies rather than becoming frustrated by basic computations.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students is the independence these calculators provide. They can check their work, explore different approaches to solving problems, and build confidence in their answers. Students who were once hesitant to participate in math activities are now more willing to take risks and tackle challenging problems because they have a tool that supports their learning.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who previously struggled with math anxiety have especially embraced the calculators. Being able to verify their calculations has reduced their fear of making mistakes and increased their confidence during class discussions and independent work. We've seen students persist longer on difficult tasks and take greater ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nThese calculators are more than just devices—they are confidence builders. Your generosity has helped create a safe, welcoming environment where students can feel comfortable expressing themselves, processing emotions, and building essential coping skills every single day.\r\n\r\nAs a school-based mental health therapist working with students in the Baltimore area, I see firsthand the emotional challenges many young people carry with them each day. Many students navigate experiences related to community violence, grief and loss, housing instability, family stress, and exposure to trauma at an early age. These stressors can make it difficult for students to feel safe, regulated, and emotionally supported within the school environment.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, students are actively using the comfy furniture and art supplies in therapy sessions every day. The therapy space has become a calming environment where students can relax, connect, and engage in meaningful therapeutic activities. Students have made bracelets, created slime, used collage materials to express themselves, and explored emotions through art in ways that feel approachable and enjoyable. Currently, students are using mixed media paper and crafting supplies to create \"About Me\" collages, helping them build identity, self-esteem, and emotional awareness in creative ways.\r\n\r\nThese materials allow therapy to feel accessible and appropriate for students of all ages. Your donation helps keep sessions engaging, stress-free, and interactive while incorporating mindfulness, creativity, and coping skill development into the therapeutic process. The cozy space and hands-on activities help students feel more open, emotionally safe, and willing to participate in difficult conversations and emotional processing.\r\n\r\nYour contribution is doing far more than providing supplies — it is helping students feel valued, supported, and empowered. Everyone has had their blood pressure taken dozens of times at the doctor's office, but many of us don't know what it actually means. So, we started the lesson with some slides and notes about what blood pressure really is, why it is an important indicator of our physical (and mental!) health, and how to take it correctly. Then, students paired up and did an experiment where they took their blood pressure at rest, then intentionally raised their BP by doing some exercise or talking about something that was stressing them out, then took it again immediately afterwards, and then once more after resting for 5 minutes. They recorded their data and reflected on the changes. It gave us important insights into the effects of activity and stress, and we had great discussions during and afterwards. \r\n\r\nThis lesson was a key part of our larger unit titled \"Goal-Setting for Physical Health.\" The experiment informed students' final assignment, in which they had to set an achieveable one-week goal related to either sleep, diet, hydration, or exercise. Many of them mentioned their blood pressure as one of the reasons they chose goals like getting more regular exercise or improving their sleep schedule in order to reduce stress -- and the vast majority of them met or exceeded their goals! We could not have made these discoveries without you, and they had a REAL and IMMEDIATE impact on students' actual personal health.
