The new math resources have made an incredible impact on my students. When the materials first arrived, the scholars reacted with absolute awe and eagerness to explore. They immediately gravitated toward the colorful Cuisenaire rods, sorting animals, and dice, excited to begin learning. These tools quickly became part of our daily routine—students used the sorting animals to group and count, the Cuisenaire rods to build arrays, and the dice to roll numbers and determine what was one more, one less, or a number that was greater than or less than their roll. Their engagement skyrocketed as they discovered new ways to make mathematical models and compare quantities.\r\n\r\nWith these resources, we've been able to build on our previous lessons, which included counting to 20, building arrays, finding one more and one less, and ordering numbers. These hands-on materials helped students grasp these foundational skills in ways that worksheets simply cannot. One of their favorite activities was using the dice to roll a number and then challenge themselves to find a number that was more than or less than what they rolled—often turning the task into friendly competitions and collaborative discussions. The Cuisenaire rods also allowed them to visually explore groups that contained more, less, or equal amounts, making abstract concepts clear and concrete.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we are deepening our understanding of comparing numbers using \"more than,\" \"less than,\" and \"equal to.\" These materials will continue to support our lessons as students apply their skills to increasingly complex tasks, such as building comparison models and explaining their mathematical thinking to their peers. Your generosity has made this level of exploration and joy in learning possible, and we are so grateful. Thank you for giving my scholars the tools they need to grow, question, and thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1757595441783,"projectUrl":"project/stars-of-kindergarten-shining-bright-in/9654744/","projectTitle":"Stars of Kindergarten: Shining Bright in Math","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Russow","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10226367_orig.jpg?crop=2307,2308,x0,y100&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757079472055","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10226367"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_126344","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":321,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":90,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":43.6,"schoolId":126344,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Astec Charter Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Astec Charter Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/oklahoma/oklahoma-department-of-education/astec-charter-elementary-school/126344"}
