My students and I greatly appreciate it. Thanks to your funding, I have been able to implement lessons on expanding students' understanding of identity and other perspectives through literature. With these books, I have been able to have students practice reading different types of text in the classroom. They have used our framework of mirrors, windows, and sliding doors to connect to the books and the story perspectives to their own.\r\n\r\nThe books have also been a great sliding glass door in introducing difficult topics within Ethnic Diversity. Students have been able to work in their table groups and with elbow partners to work on their reading. Even my most reluctant readers have grown an interest in reading. The different topics and the use of graphic novels have been a game-changer in increasing literacy skills in my classroom. They have been able to connect with what we have learned to their own lives and the books we have read in class. They have also been able to become more understanding and empathetic to others. Which is wonderful to see!\r\n\r\nFinally, this project has made a significant impact on students who struggled to connect with the course and high school in general. Through reading the diverse books provided, I've observed a notable increase in their motivation and engagement in class. Getting them to \"buy in\" through reading, and encouraging them to put away their phones, has been essential for greater success in the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1750863145132,"projectUrl":"project/windows-mirrors-reading-unrepresented/9387953/","projectTitle":"Windows & Mirrors: Reading Unrepresented Voices in Ethnic Studies","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Vadeboncoeur","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8432077_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y169&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1651196370984","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrsv-edahistory"},{"teacherId":9778960,"projectId":8823449,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for taking the time to and also your generosity and donating to our JROTC program. When I opened my email and saw that our project was fully funded, I was absolutely stunned and overjoyed. Knowing that my students would have access to these new tools filled me with excitement and gratitude.\r\n\r\nThe impact has already been incredible. Students are enthusiastically using the materials to interview their classmates as they test the technology, and they're now reaching out to important adults and elders in their lives to interview. Through this project, they are not only learning more about each other, their families, and our community, but also developing valuable communication skills.\r\n\r\nIt's been especially rewarding to see students who are usually quiet and reserved come out of their shells, while others have deepened their understanding and empathy for those around them. The connections they're making are meaningful and lasting—all thanks to your support.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is truly making a difference.
