I put them in four buckets, thinking I would introduce them later in the day. But the students found them immediately, and were so excited. The 40 books I just received were gobbled up at once, and the buckets drained! \r\nThis room had no classroom library at the beginning of the year. I received about 80 books in my last two grants. The students negotiate who will read which books next. Our 21 students have become stronger readers because they are reading what they want. Series like Dog Man compel them to read. We have no trouble with our daily 20 minutes silent reading time. Instead we have trouble insisting that books be put away. They'd been asking me when we would get more books.\r\nThis week we have the high stress yearly standardized tests. Every student has a book in their chair pocket to read after they finished. This works really well. Students read quietly while they waited for the others to finish testing. Such a great way to unwind after testing!\r\nMy students are so lucky to have support from donors. Thank you for this library.
