My students love having fresh supplies, and being able to laminate visual supports means we can use them again and again without worry. And of course, the wipes and sanitizer may not seem exciting, but they've been so important in keeping our space clean and healthy so kids can focus on learning.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for giving my students these simple but powerful tools. The excitement in the room when I introduced the new supplies was contagious—students immediately started exploring how the styluses worked with their devices, and several who usually shy away from writing tasks were suddenly more engaged and curious. One moment that stands out was during a digital art and journaling activity, where students used the styluses to annotate texts and sketch ideas for a group project. Having tools that feel modern and accessible made a huge difference in their willingness to participate and express themselves creatively.\r\n\r\nThe snacks have also been a quiet but powerful motivator. For many of my students, having access to something as simple as a granola bar or crackers helps them stay focused and feel cared for in the classroom environment. As we move forward, we're diving into a multi-step personal narrative unit where students will be combining written reflection with visual elements. They each took a pack of markers and a box of Kleenex and placed the items in their teaching bin. They were in disbelief that someone would send them supplies - but were honored that someone did!\r\n\r\nI strongly feel that we need more mental health awareness in schools. Also, drug addiction is a crisis in this country - if not the world. We are trying to improve mental health and interrupt addiction by teaching younger students that they do not have to use chemicals to be included or fit in, feel good about themselves, or to manage stress. These seniors are such wonderful role models for the younger students, and they, themselves, pledged to be chemically free for their senior year. \r\n\r\nI have uploaded a picture of the seniors holding up the markers for you. These materials have proven to be an incredible asset in my group activities, and I wanted to share the positive impact they've had on our students.\r\n\r\nThe Deductive Reasoning Puzzle Book has been a game-changer, encouraging my students to think critically and apply logic in ways they hadn't before. The puzzles have sparked a sense of curiosity and problem-solving among them, and I've seen a marked improvement in their ability to approach complex tasks systematically. Many of my students who were previously hesitant to engage in reasoning exercises have found themselves challenged in a fun, non-intimidating way. It's not just about finding the solution—it's about learning to think more strategically and with purpose.\r\n\r\nThe Conversation Cards have also been invaluable, especially in fostering meaningful discussions among my students. These cards provided a unique opportunity to engage with topics ranging from personal reflections to thought-provoking questions about the world around us. Watching students who might usually shy away from group conversation open up and share their thoughts has been incredibly rewarding. These discussions have helped build a stronger sense of community within my therapy groups, improved communication skills, and nurtured an appreciation for diverse perspectives.\r\n\r\nBoth of these resources have not only enhanced our therapy experience but also contributed to the personal growth of my students. I can see them developing important life skills such as critical thinking, communication, and teamwork—skills that will undoubtedly serve them well in the future.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for your thoughtful donation and for making such a positive difference in my therapy groups. These tools are very effective to help eliminate learning barriers. Because of the generous donors, my students have been able to type essays to help reach the Minnesota State writing standards. Students had a choice to write about their favorite sport, best pet to own, or best holiday. They then had to provide reasons to support their claim. This assignment would typically be a struggle for many of my students, but having sleek, new keyboards really motivated many of the students to achieve their individualized writing goals.\r\n\r\nMy students also struggle with many sensory issues. Having fidgets, lighting, and scents allows my students to regulate throughout the day. They have loved choosing different scents for our classroom essential oil diffuser. The dimmed fairy lights are very popular and students are constantly requesting the \"water snakes\" to hold while reading. I even purchased more water snakes because of how popular and well liked they are.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping make my classroom a calm, safe environment.","fullyFundedDate":1729957582267,"projectUrl":"project/i-like-big-books-and-i-cannot-lie/8881953/","projectTitle":"I like big books and I cannot lie!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Nohelty","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9804904"},{"teacherId":9815812,"projectId":8902889,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity! The materials that you provided for my classroom supported my students in so many ways:\r\n\r\nHaving Kleenex, hand sanitizer, and cleaning supplies may seem like a small thing, but multiple students have told me that my room is one of the few places they can consistently find these supplies. In the past, I have spent about $70/year just keeping tissues supplied through the winter. It is hard to focus on learning when your nose is stuffy and you don't know when a sneeze might lead to an embarrassing situation, and kids are so grateful to have these things. I also have snacks...kids know they can ask if they need something, and I can subtly drop something at their desk. It humanizes our space and shows them that I care about them.\r\n\r\nFresh art/school supplies are another thing that really helped my students this fall. Leading up to Thanksgiving, my students always color turkeys, then write a short message in German to a staff member, telling them why they appreciate that person. I have included some photos of these. Staff members love getting them; many people hang them up in their rooms. It also gives them a chance to engage with my students (the staff generally doesn't speak German, so they then talk with the students about what they wrote). It's so much easier to do something you're proud of and want to share when you have the right materials! I will be using the materials again for an upcoming project where students prepare presentations on zoo animals for German Day at the Zoo.\r\n\r\nFinally, I was able to get some new games and books to help students further their German skills in a fun way. My upper levels have choice reading/listening time for part of their class on Fridays, and I was able to get some new books. Reading is so much more enjoyable when you can choose your own book that is on your level and about a topic you enjoy! I was able to add to my library and give students more options; many choose to read over watching videos in German! I also got 2 Bananagrams games, and we have used those to have contests (in German) between groups of students. It's so exciting for them (and for me) to see the words they can remember and what they can come up with in that setting.\r\n\r\nThey school year can get long, and there are days when students really just need a choice, something beautiful, and/or for their humanity to be acknowledged.
