Because of your support, my students have been able to experience meaningful read-alouds that are helping them grow not only as readers, but as empathetic, self-aware learners.\r\n\r\nThese new books introduce important literacy skills, but more importantly, the stories focus on relatable characters who experience emotions my students recognize—frustration, excitement, worry, anger, and joy. Through these texts, students are learning how to identify feelings, understand others' perspectives, and talk about emotions in a healthy and productive way.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is a shared experience. During read-alouds, students listen closely, reflect, and engage in thoughtful discussions about the characters' choices and feelings. We pause to ask questions like, \"How do you think the character feels right now?\" and \"What could they do to help themselves?\" These conversations have helped students build empathy and learn strategies for managing big feelings.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially connected with these stories. Seeing characters experience similar challenges has helped them feel understood. I've noticed students using language from the books to describe their emotions, showing increased patience with peers, and demonstrating greater compassion toward others during the school day.\r\n\r\nYour donation has had a powerful impact on our classroom community. Thank you for helping my students develop a love of reading while also supporting their social and emotional growth. Your generosity is truly making a difference.","fullyFundedDate":1760548763016,"projectUrl":"project/big-feelings-little-learners-sel-books/9780883/","projectTitle":"Big Feelings, Little Learners: SEL Books for Kindergarten","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Yoder","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9565550_orig.jpg?crop=1093,1093,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721247385113","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9565550"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_43744","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":407,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":36,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":49,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":26,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"12.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":94.7,"schoolId":43744,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Anna Reynolds Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Anna Reynolds Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/newington-public-schools/anna-reynolds-elementary-school/43744"}
