It has quickly become an essential tool for teaching my students responsibility and organization. Each child now has their own personal slot that we call \"the paper station.\" This small but powerful system gives students ownership over their materials, a clear place to keep important papers, and daily practice with routines that build independence.\r\n\r\nWhat may look like a simple organizer has had a big impact—students are excited to use \"their spot,\" and they are learning to take pride in keeping it neat and ready. For many of my students, developing these organizational skills is a huge step toward independence both in and out of the classroom. These tools have made math time one of the most engaging parts of our day!\r\n\r\nMany of my students face learning barriers, especially with language delays, and traditional instruction can often be overwhelming. Thanks to your donation, math has become something they look forward to—an opportunity to explore, play, and learn in a way that fits their needs. I've already seen growth in their confidence and participation. They are more eager to try, more proud of their progress, and genuinely enjoying the process of learning. My TK–1st grade students are absolutely thriving with this new sensory-rich resource. The light table has brought an exciting, hands-on element to our classroom that sparks joy, focus, and curiosity in every child.\r\n\r\nStudents eagerly engage in counting activities using translucent manipulatives on the glowing surface, which enhances their one-to-one correspondence skills in a visually stimulating way. The light table also supports early literacy by making phoneme-grapheme correspondence more concrete and fun. Students are using the translucent letters to spell CVC words, identify beginning sounds, and build their name and sight words with increased confidence.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest surprises has been how the light table encourages collaboration and communication. Many of my students have challenges with expressive and receptive language, but this tool naturally promotes turn-taking, shared play, and peer modeling. I've seen students who are typically hesitant to engage suddenly become eager to participate, guided by the visual and tactile feedback the light table provides.\r\n\r\nThe impact on student engagement has been huge. Every time the light table is introduced during centers or small group instruction, excitement fills the room. It supports multiple modalities of learning—visual, tactile, and kinesthetic—making lessons more accessible for my diverse group of learners. This project has truly embodied the principles of Universal Design for Learning, giving every student a way to access content and express understanding in a way that works best for them.\r\n\r\nThank you for bringing this dream to life and helping my students learn through wonder, discovery, and joyful exploration. Your support has created meaningful learning moments that will stay with them for a long time.","fullyFundedDate":1739373224858,"projectUrl":"project/stem-through-the-light-engaging-student/8933076/","projectTitle":"STEM Through the Light: Engaging Students in Hands-On Sensory Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Riess","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9570604_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723305664671","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9570604"},{"teacherId":9570604,"projectId":8933099,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for your generosity in funding this project! My TK-1st grade students were absolutely thrilled when they first saw the new materials. Many of my students have low receptive and expressive language, so providing them with hands-on, engaging resources has been a game-changer. The Old MacDonald board book with finger puppets has made storytime come alive! Students eagerly interact with the puppets, imitating animal sounds and repeating parts of the song. This has helped them build confidence in communication while making learning feel like play.\r\n\r\nThe gel writing boards have been another fantastic addition to our classroom. For students who struggle with traditional pencil-and-paper tasks, these boards provide a fun, sensory-based way to practice writing and phonological awareness. After small group instruction, I bring them out as an exciting reward, and students are always eager to use them. Writing on the gel boards feels like magic, making learning more accessible and engaging. And, of course, the Pete the Cat books have quickly become a class favorite! My students love setting up the Pete plush as a listener during storytime, which helps them stay engaged while following along. The books, with their stickers and interactive elements, encourage participation and bring so much joy to our classroom.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, my students are not only learning but developing a love for stories, writing, and expressive communication. Moving forward, we will continue using these materials to build literacy skills, encourage social interactions, and create meaningful learning experiences. Your kindness has made a lasting impact, and I am truly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1733331277533,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-literacy-engaging-students-wit/8933099/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Literacy: Engaging Students with Interactive Books and Puppets","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Riess","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9570604_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723305664671","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9570604"},{"teacherId":9570604,"projectId":8466814,"letterContent":"I hope this message finds you well! I wanted to take a moment to share how much of a difference your generosity has made in my classroom. Thanks to your support, my students now have access to portable lap desks that have truly transformed our learning environment.\r\n\r\nWhen the lap desks first arrived, my students were absolutely thrilled! Their faces lit up as they explored these new tools, eager to try them out. For many of them, sitting at a traditional desk and chair isn't the most comfortable or effective way to learn. These lightweight, sturdy wooden lap desks have become an instant favorite. They give my students the freedom to choose where and how they work, helping them feel empowered and in control of their learning.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular, who often struggled to focus in a traditional setup, now uses the lap desk to sit near the classroom library. Having this option has improved their focus and attention, allowing them to engage with their work in ways that meet their sensory needs. Another student loves using the desk to spread out their materials on the carpet, saying, \"This is my special desk!\" Moments like these remind me how impactful flexible seating can be.\r\n\r\nAs a first-year teacher in a kindergarten and first-grade special education classroom, I'm learning every day how to meet the diverse needs of my students. These desks are more than just furniture; they're tools for fostering independence, engagement, and success. The portability and design allow students to move, wiggle, and find comfort, helping them better regulate their sensory input while focusing on their tasks.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these lap desks will continue to play a central role in our lessons. Whether working on literacy activities, practicing math skills, or engaging in creative projects, my students are better equipped to tackle challenges with focus and confidence.\r\n\r\nThank you again for supporting our classroom and believing in my students.
