Your compassion and commitment have made a profound difference in our ability to respond to students during moments of everyday struggle, times of crisis, and periods of tragedy.\r\n\r\nHigh school is a time of intense emotional, academic, and social growth. While many students navigate daily stressors such as academic pressure, peer relationships, and family responsibilities, others face unexpected and overwhelming challenges that require immediate care and understanding. In recent years, Alta Loma High School has experienced notable trauma and loss, underscoring the importance of proactive, compassionate mental health support. Your contribution allows us to respond with care, dignity, and immediacy when students need it most.\r\n\r\nThe Emergency Crisis Kits you helped make possible are thoughtfully assembled self-care and \"in-need\" baskets designed to provide comfort, grounding, and reassurance. These kits include items meant to help students decompress, regulate emotions, and feel safe during difficult moments. When a student is overwhelmed, grieving, or experiencing emotional distress, having access to tangible comfort can be incredibly powerful. These kits offer more than just supplies—they provide a sense of care, stability, and human connection during times when students may feel vulnerable or alone.\r\n\r\nBy providing these kits, we are able to create a safe and supportive space for students to pause, breathe, and begin processing their emotions. Whether used during an individual crisis, following a campus-wide tragedy, or as support during an especially challenging day, the kits serve as an immediate reminder that students are seen, supported, and valued. For many students, knowing that these resources are available can be just as impactful as the items themselves.\r\n\r\nYour support also sends a clear and meaningful message to our students: their mental health matters. In moments of crisis, students often struggle to articulate their needs. The availability of Emergency Crisis Kits helps bridge that gap by offering comfort without requiring explanation. This approach reduces stigma, promotes emotional safety, and reinforces that seeking support is a normal and healthy response to hardship.\r\n\r\nThe impact of your donation extends beyond individual moments of care. These kits are part of a broader commitment to fostering a compassionate school culture—one that prioritizes mental health, empathy, and resilience. They allow counselors, staff, and support teams to respond effectively and thoughtfully when tragedy arises, ensuring that students are not left to navigate difficult emotions on their own.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has strengthened our ability to be proactive rather than reactive. In a world where students are increasingly impacted by stress, loss, and uncertainty, having resources ready and accessible is essential. Because of you, we are better equipped to support healing, encourage emotional regulation, and provide comfort during some of the most challenging moments our students may face.\r\n\r\nThank you for standing with Alta Loma High School and for investing in the well-being of our students. Your support has created a lasting impact—one rooted in compassion, care, and hope. We are deeply grateful for your partnership and for the difference you continue to make in the lives of our students.","fullyFundedDate":1764739917298,"projectUrl":"project/emergency-crisis-kits/9913132/","projectTitle":"Emergency Crisis Kits","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ruiz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7756098"},{"teacherId":7756098,"projectId":8765365,"letterContent":"On behalf of the Alta Loma High School Peer Counseling Program, we would like to sincerely thank you for your generous support of our mission to stop the stigma surrounding mental health. Your donation has made a meaningful difference in the daily lives of our students and has helped us create a more compassionate, supportive, and emotionally aware campus environment.\r\n\r\nHigh school students face an increasing number of stressors each day. Academic pressures, athletic commitments, family responsibilities, friendships, and social expectations can quickly become overwhelming. Many students experience heightened stress and anxiety as they try to balance these demands, often without knowing where to turn for support. Your generosity has allowed our Peer Counseling Program to directly address these challenges by providing accessible, calming, and stigma-free tools that support student well-being.\r\n\r\nOur Peer Counseling Program is made up of a dedicated group of students who are deeply committed to helping their peers navigate stress, anxiety, and emotional challenges. With your support, these students have been able to lead initiatives that promote mental health awareness in positive, visible, and engaging ways. One such initiative includes the creation and distribution of sensory bottles. These bottles serve as simple yet powerful grounding tools that help students pause, regulate their breathing, and refocus during moments of stress or anxiety. For many students, having access to a tangible calming resource during the school day makes a significant difference in their ability to manage emotions and remain engaged in learning.\r\n\r\nIn addition, your donation has supported positive face painting activities featuring encouraging messages and affirmations. These activities not only bring joy and connection to our campus, but also help normalize conversations about mental health. By pairing creativity with positive messaging, our Peer Counseling students are able to challenge misconceptions about mental illness and promote the idea that seeking support is a strength, not a weakness.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has also allowed us to improve our counseling area through the use of essential oils and a diffuser. These calming tools help create a welcoming and soothing environment for students who visit the counseling space. For students experiencing anxiety or emotional distress, the atmosphere of the counseling area plays an important role in helping them feel safe, relaxed, and supported. These small but intentional changes have helped transform the space into a refuge where students can take a moment to breathe, reflect, and feel heard.\r\n\r\nPerhaps most importantly, your support empowers students to support one another. Peer counselors learn valuable skills in empathy, communication, leadership, and advocacy as they design and implement these initiatives. They model compassion and understanding for the entire school community, reinforcing a culture where mental health is openly discussed and prioritized.\r\n\r\nThe impact of your donation extends far beyond the materials themselves. You have helped provide moments of peace during stressful days, encouraged mindfulness and emotional awareness, and contributed to a school culture that values mental well-being. Your belief in our students and our mission is helping us take meaningful steps toward ending the stigma surrounding mental health at Alta Loma High School.\r\n\r\nThank you for your generosity, your trust, and your commitment to student well-being. Your belief in our students and our work has made a meaningful and lasting impact on our campus community.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our Peer Counseling Program has been able to go beyond traditional counseling services and training to create visible, engaging, and inclusive opportunities for students to connect with one another and learn about mental health in positive and empowering ways. Your support has helped us enrich the Alta Loma High School environment through lunchtime and after-school activities, campus events, football game outreach, and interactive gatherings that bring mental health awareness into everyday student life.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful outcomes of your donation is our increased ability to meet students where they are. Not every student feels comfortable walking into a counseling office or asking for help directly. Through relaxed, welcoming, and creative events, we are able to reach students who might otherwise remain disengaged. These experiences allow students to learn about emotional well-being, coping strategies, and peer support in a way that feels safe, approachable, and stigma-free.\r\n\r\nThe materials you helped provide—plants, flower pots, paint, glitter, brushes, and other creative supplies—have played a vital role in bringing our vision to life. With these resources, our students have participated in canvas friendship painting activities, planting projects symbolizing growth and resilience, mental health-themed games, and preparation for larger initiatives such as a school-wide mental health rally. Each activity is intentionally designed to spark conversation, encourage peer connection, and normalize discussions around emotions, stress, and self-care.\r\n\r\nThese events do more than raise awareness; they build community. By being active and visible on campus, our Peer Counseling Program helps strengthen school spirit and fosters a sense of belonging. Students see their peers leading with empathy, creativity, and courage, which reinforces the message that mental health matters and that support is always available. Many students have shared that these events made them feel seen, supported, and less alone—outcomes that would not be possible without donor support like yours.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, these experiences help our peer counselors develop essential communication, leadership, and counseling skills. As they plan and facilitate events, students learn how to listen, empathize, collaborate, and advocate for others—skills that will serve them well beyond high school.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has helped us plant seeds of awareness, connection, and compassion across our campus. The impact of your support extends far beyond a single event; it helps create a culture where mental health conversations are encouraged, stigma is challenged, and students feel empowered to care for themselves and one another.\r\n\r\nThank you for standing with us and investing in the well-being of Alta Loma High School students. Many of my students arrive with significant gaps in their basic math skills, and without steady access to their own calculators they often fall behind before they can even attempt the new material. Now that every student has a calculator to use, they can tackle multi step problems with more confidence and less frustration. This shift has helped them concentrate on the actual concepts we are learning, such as solving systems, working with functions, and exploring geometry relationships, instead of getting stuck on simple arithmetic.\r\n\r\nThese calculators have also opened the door to richer classroom activities. Students are able to participate in group work, explore real world data, and complete modeling tasks that were difficult to do before. I have noticed a real improvement in their willingness to keep trying when the work gets challenging, and I am seeing more students raise their hands and take part in discussions. For many of them, this is the first time they feel prepared and capable in math class, and the boost to their confidence has been amazing to watch. This allows them to spend more time engaging deeply with math concepts, problem-solving, and building confidence.\r\n\r\nThe excitement these calculators have brought to the classroom has been wonderful. Students appreciate having reliable devices that they can use every day, and they feel more supported as they work through challenging problems. The calculators allow them to check their reasoning, explore new skills like square roots, and take on more complex tasks without feeling discouraged.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who used to hesitate during multi-step problems have especially been grateful for the calculators. One student who often felt anxious about making simple mistakes now participates more confidently, saying that the calculator helps them \"finally focus on the math part.\" Tools like these don't replace learning—they empower students to access it fully. Since its arrival, it has become an essential part of our daily routine, providing a calming and supportive resource for our students. Whenever a student feels overwhelmed or frustrated, a few minutes in the chair helps them reset, making it easier for them to focus and engage in their learning activities. We have also incorporated the chair as a reward system, encouraging students to stay on task and complete their assignments with the incentive of relaxation time.\r\n\r\nThe excitement on our students' faces when they first saw the massage chair was priceless! They were eager to try it out, and once they did, they quickly realized how much it helped them feel more at ease. Some students, who previously struggled with transitions or long periods of focus, have shown noticeable improvements in their ability to manage stress and stay engaged in classroom activities. The joy and comfort the chair has provided have exceeded our expectations, and it has truly made a difference in their daily school experience.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are excited to see how the massage chair continues to support our students' growth. Our district has taken notice of its positive impact and is interested in collecting data to determine whether similar chairs should be placed in other schools as a therapeutic resource. This could mean that many more students across the district will benefit from the same comfort and sensory support that our classroom has experienced.
