Your donation to this project helped students at our school have more books to read. The books purchased for this project support a variety of curriculums, programs, lessons, and student engagement.\r\nSome of the books purchased as part of this project appear on this year's NC Elementary Battle of the Books list. Our school has a Battle of the Books team each year. Having more copies of the books from the list ensures that students on this team are able to read the books needed for this program.\r\nSeveral of the books purchased as part of this project support various areas of CKLA, a curriculum used by Kindergarten through 5th grade for English Language Arts. Poetry units are found in the CKLA curriculum for 4th and 5th grade. Fairytale units are found in the CKLA curriculum for 1st and 2nd grade.\r\nOur school also has a Purple Star designation because of our support of military families and the military in general. Several of the books purchased as part of this project support this program as well. Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade participate in this program.\r\nOther books purchased as part of this project are part of book series we have in our media center collection. By adding these additional books, we encourage students to keep reading by getting them interested in a book series. \r\nYour support is great appreciated by the students and staff at our school! The Yoto mini players and book cards are a great addition to our free choice station rotation. Students can listen to books at this station which helps them become better readers. Listening to books helps strengthen listening skills, build vocabulary, alleviate frustration, and improve comprehension. These benefits are especially true for struggling readers. \r\nListening to these books can also encourage students to check out copies of available books from the media center to read independently in their classroom or at home. One pack of book cards we received included books from the Narwhal and Jelly series. We have copies of several of the books from this series available for check out in our media center. One day I shared a selection from one of the Narwhal and Jelly books with a class using the Yoto mini player and book card. After listening to the selection, a student asked me where the Narwhal and Jelly books are located in our media center. This student checked out two Narwhal and Jelly books that day.
