Because of your contribution, my students received magnetic letters that made a meaningful difference in our reading and writing instruction. We used them daily to support encoding, decoding, and spelling practice, and the impact was immediate. The students were thrilled to use the letters together on our classroom carpet, turning what might have felt like \"work\" into something exciting and collaborative.\r\n\r\nThey especially loved discovering that the letters were magnetic—many commented on how \"cool\" it was and eagerly jumped into building words together. It created a fun, hands-on way to reinforce key literacy skills, especially during those final weeks of school when engagement can be more challenging. These materials also allowed me to plan more interactive and effective lessons tailored to the needs of my students.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, my students were not only learning but truly enjoying the process. Nevertheless, I am happy to have the opportunity to share my gratitude. \r\n\r\nIn the anatomy of the classroom, the rug is the beating heart where the flow of learning primarily occurs. Before your donation, I was struggling with organization. Students did not have designated spots and there were no defined rows, causing conflict between students and confusion during transitions. As a first year teacher, funding my classroom has been difficult and rugs in particular are a huge financial burden. \r\n\r\nYour kind donation has helped my classroom organization immensely. My students are excited to have their own space on the carpet. My transitions have been smoother, since I've been able to dismiss students by rows. Changing note, I love the color and simplicity of the rug's design! \r\n\r\nIn a world that is chaotic and unpredictable, your gesture reminds me that good and kind-hearted people exist everywhere! Thank you for supporting me in the onset of my career; I truly appreciate it. You have recently funded a project I wrote: Skill Wizards. With your generous donation, I have been able to plan and carry out specific literacy intervention lessons for my kindergarten, first and second grade students. \r\n\r\nOur Kindergarten and first grade students are increasing their letter learning and sounds by tracing letters in their own 'sandbox'. This tactile tracing supports the multi-sensory part of the brain for those students who find letter learning a bit more challenging. It is also a lot of fun for them to trace! Students are also learning what uppercase and lowercase letter pairs look like at an early age so accessing print can become an easier process. Additionally, students are also learning how to write their sight words so that they can self monitor with them in texts. Again, another fun way to engage students in their literacy journey!\r\nThe teacher whiteboard provided has also allowed me to model correct letter formation to my students to ensure they are forming letters efficiently and effectively.\r\n\r\nMy first grade students have enjoyed the decodable graphic novels you have provided! They are learning about words with digraphs that contain sh, ch, th and wh! As we read the stories together, the students love to go on a word hunt looking for that particular digraph. Reading these books have recently helped some students pass their digraph assessment! With these stories, they can easily apply their skills to other texts.\r\n\r\nFinally, my second grade students are devouring the decodable graphic novel book sets. The students are using a story reteller to help them identify important story elements such as: characters, setting, details and sequence of events. The high interest content of these stories keep even the most reluctant readers engaged from the beginning of the story to the end!\r\nThe second graders are also using the sandboxes to increase their sight word knowledge, especially for those words that 'do not play fair' in the English language. Having access to the sandboxes serve a multitude of purposes across all grade levels in the literacy room.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity in 'growing young readers' at Acres Green Elementary!\r\nMy students are eager to come to the literacy room each day as they know they are successful in their literacy journey and want to continue growing as readers and writers!\r\n\r\n\r\nMary Berrington\r\nLiteracy Specialist\r\nAcres Green Elementary","fullyFundedDate":1737562095402,"projectUrl":"project/skill-wizard/8839214/","projectTitle":"Skill Wizard","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Berrington","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9253847"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_42412","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":341,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":35,"percentAsian":20,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":37,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":31,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"9.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.3,"schoolId":42412,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Acres Green Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Acres Green Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/douglas-county-school-district-re-1/acres-green-elementary-school/42412"}
