I anticipated my students' excitement, but what has surprised me is the interest and questions I get from all of the adults who visit my room! I thought that this would drive the learning of my students (and it has!); I'm thrilled to discover that it has also fueled the curiosity and joy of so many adults and other students who visit my room. The impact your donation has made is so much greater than I had anticipated!\r\nI wish that you could have been there for the big reveal. My shy kids were not shy in this moment! They made incredible predictions and connections between our learning about erosion and what might happen in the tumbler. As we progressed through the 4 different grits, my students talked about the similarities and differences they were seeing, which tied directly into our comparison writing for our literacy unit. Every single kid was able to share a fact they knew about plate tectonics after our unit to earn a freshly tumbled rock!\r\nOur kindergarten buddies have also been enthralled with the rock tumbler. My students have been working with their kindergarten buddies on venn diagrams, and the rocks have been a perfect place to practice their language around comparisons. Thank you so much for this gift. It has indeed rocked their world and made many ripples through our learning community at my school.","fullyFundedDate":1757423440063,"projectUrl":"project/rock-their-world/9568290/","projectTitle":"Rock their World","teacherDisplayName":"Mx. The excitement in the room was incredible when we opened the sets. These sets help to make the excerpts from \"The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind\" that are about electricity very real and understandable for my students.\r\nMy favorite moment so far has been when one of my student groups suddenly yelled \"we achieved flight!\" They built one of the circuits all by themselves that propelled the fan into the air when they shut it off. The pride on their faces that they decoded a diagram and had an exciting result was awesome. I can't wait to get them deeper into the book so that the projects are as complicated as the ones in the book. \r\nOne of my favorite parts of introducing Snap Circuits into my room has been who has emerged as a leader. Kids who aren't normally a leader in the room, but who have great visual thinking skills and engineering skills have stepped in as experts. To give another set of students a chance to shine has been amazing. They are more confident in the rest of their day! Your donations have made these conversations tangible, colorful, and fun!\r\n\r\nLast year, the first group got to use the scarves and juggling balls. We had one student whose gross motor skills were so poor that his first goal was to drop and then catch the scarf. The whole class cheered him on in the same way that they cheered our students who could juggle three balls. The community building and pride in their growth that these scarves and balls provided was super impactful as they transition to middle school. We also used them to play with our little kindergarten buddies!\r\n\r\nI'm excited to start this school year with new, beautiful scarves and juggling balls to support our conversations around growth mindset. We have 19 students who will get to use the materials that you provided! They are already having deep discussions about what it means to be a student and learn, thank you! I can't express enough how much this supports our whole year of learning. We are learning so much this year about composting and how to have a smaller impact on the world. My kids have been astonished at the change from what they put in to what comes out! We've been putting the scraps of our snacks into it, so banana peels, apple cores, and pear cores. It comes out as brown and crumbly! We've been able to do some fantastic comparison writing based on these experiences.\r\n\r\nWe are eagerly looking forward to spring so that we can add the compost to our garden! We tried adding some to the tomato plant we are attempting to grow in winter under our glow lights. It grew another 3 inches! We can't wait to see the difference it makes to our school garden. Our class and many other classes will benefit from this project.\r\n\r\nThank you again for supporting the hands on learning we're doing in my room.
