Something as simple as a fresh pack of markers or a brightly colored sheet of cardstock sparked smiles and creativity. They immediately began using the supplies during our social-emotional learning (SEL) circles, where we reflect on our feelings, build empathy, and strengthen our classroom community. One memorable moment was when a student used the new markers and cardstock to create an affirmation board for their peers—a spontaneous act of kindness that encouraged others to do the same.\r\n\r\nThe snacks have been an especially meaningful addition. For some students, a healthy snack makes all the difference in their ability to focus and participate. It's not just about food—it's about feeling seen and cared for. With pencils now readily available, there's one less barrier between my students and their learning. These simple yet powerful items have helped create a classroom environment rooted in support, trust, and restorative practices. As we continue exploring SEL and restorative justice, our next steps involve student-led community-building projects, where they'll use these resources to design posters, write reflection letters, and lead peer discussions.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students more than supplies—you've helped give them the space and tools to grow not only as learners but also as thoughtful, emotionally aware individuals. Your generosity shapes our classroom into a healing, connection, and creativity space.","fullyFundedDate":1733494834728,"projectUrl":"project/restorative-justicesocial-emotional-lea/8801013/","projectTitle":"Restorative Justice/Social Emotional Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shepherd","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9761342"},{"teacherId":8807424,"projectId":8654522,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation for our students. We truly appreciate your commitments to the kids in our school. The students are able to prevail in school and after school because they now have access to a device. \r\nWith your help, we are able to provide the devices during the day and after school to almost 400 students. The kids in turn are also being taught responsibility. Access to the internet will help with their school work, relationships with peers, and just the wellness check of coming into the guidance office and getting a device to use to apply to their college/ internship / career applications goes a long way.","fullyFundedDate":1731514338971,"projectUrl":"project/sliding-into-success-with-technology/8654522/","projectTitle":"Sliding into Success with Technology!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Scaglione","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8807424_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1697749507143","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8807424"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_24823","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":410,"numTeachers":13,"percentFrplEligible":82,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":58,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":29,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"31.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":58.2,"schoolId":24823,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Academy of Hospitality & Tourism on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Academy of Hospitality & Tourism","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/acad-of-hospitality-tourism/24823"}
