When the toaster oven and bed frame arrived, my students were so excited—they couldn't believe these items were really for us! We've been using the toaster oven to support life skills and independence, like preparing simple meals and learning kitchen safety. The bed frame is also part of our life skills area, helping students practice tasks such as making a bed, folding linens, and organizing a personal space—skills they'll use far beyond the classroom.\r\nTheir reactions were priceless—lots of smiles, curious questions, and even a few students immediately volunteering to help set everything up. Now, we're moving into a unit focused on daily living skills, and these tools are helping us turn lessons into real-world practice. Your donation made that possible. You didn't just give materials—you allowed my students to build confidence, independence, and essential life skills. Thank you for being such a vital part of our journey!","fullyFundedDate":1746707759703,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-our-young-adults-through-acti/9130152/","projectTitle":"Empowering Our Young Adults Through Activities of Daily Living Skills","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Laurent","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9059276_orig.png?crop=2304,2304,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726489763043","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9059276"},{"teacherId":9059276,"projectId":9101003,"letterContent":"We are incredibly thankful for your generous support, which allowed us to receive a mini fridge and a hot pot for our classroom. These new resources have made a meaningful difference in our students' daily learning experiences. We'd love to share how we're using them and the impact they have had.\r\nClassroom Project Highlight\r\nOne notable project we undertook was the \"Healthy Cooking Challenge.\" With the Electric Burners, students could cook healthy snacks and meals, which tied into our nutrition and wellness curriculum. They prepared meals using simple, wholesome ingredients, practicing teamwork and culinary skills while discussing the importance of nutrition. The mini fridge lets us keep fresh ingredients on hand, ensuring our students access healthy options throughout the week.\r\nNot only did this project foster creativity, but it also sparked conversations about nutrition, cultural food practices, and the science behind cooking. Watching students take pride in their creations as they shared them with their classmates was a joyous moment!\r\nStudent Reactions\r\nThe students' excitement was contagious when they first saw the mini fridge and Electric Burners! They gathered around to explore the new items, asking questions and brainstorming ideas for what they could prepare. The thought of cooking in the classroom generated a buzz of enthusiasm and anticipation, transforming the room into a hub of curiosity and energy.\r\nNext Steps in Learning\r\nWe plan to host a \"Cultural Cuisine Week,\" where each class will research and prepare a dish from a different country using the Electric Burners and fridge. This will enhance their cooking skills and provide an excellent opportunity to learn about global cultures and traditions. Each group will present their dish and share interesting facts about its origin, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of diversity.\r\nThank you once again for your support. Your contributions have created a space where students can learn, build, and grow together in a fun and engaging way.
