This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My fifth graders are naturally curious, and nothing excites them more than hands-on learning. With this project, my students will design and build balloon-powered cars using recycled materials. As they construct and race their cars, they will see Newton’s Laws of Motion and the concepts of kinetic and potential energy in action.

This project isn’t just about science—it’s about engagement.

Students will collaborate, test their ideas, make adjustments, and celebrate when their cars finally zoom across the floor. Activities like this build persistence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while making abstract concepts easier to understand.

With your support, my classroom will have the materials needed—bottles, balloons, skewers, straws, and tape—to give every student the chance to create, test, and learn through this fun and memorable STEM challenge.
